Tudor Ranger 7995

Hi Everyone,

I have been approached locally in regards to an example of what looks to be a tudor ranger as seen in a tudor magazine article "tudor history origins 1960 to 1969" (sorry unable to post the link). The serial dates it around 1964-65

Here are the photo's

P1000707_optimized.jpg

P1000709_optimized.jpg

P1000710_optimized.jpg

1) What do you think of authenticity? as i know these are faked to death. It looks ok to my eye, but i have not had much experience with vintage tudor/rolex

2) what is the potential value of this piece?

Thanks!

Maybe legit - I have not been able to confirm many Rose Rangers.

Having said that, the dial has some interesting features a legit one would have and the hands look correct - with the sweep box being smaller than what is seen on fakes.

What is the seller asking? If real, it should be a considerably valuable watch since real ones dont turn up that often. If the price is too good to be true then you get the idea.

At the moment the seller has no price set, and I guess I'm trying to gauge a fair offer. What do you think the ball park for these is? @offrdmania

Tough to say since the market is so limited on legit examples.

It would be good to see the serial and model numbers located between the lugs. Can you also get pictures of the movement and inside case back?

For a Tudor Ranger, I'd like to see as much as possible.

Nothing I will share online because of how often they are faked ; )

Rangers are very hard to separate fact from fiction, more so from photos than in hand.

The owner says that the serial is 445xxx which places the date at 1964ish however he also states that it was very hard to make out it could be
545xxx which would place the watch in 1966/67ish.

He has sent some blurry photos of between the lugs, but I can't make much out other than the reference number being 79xx.

The owner says he is unable and hesitant to open the caseback, and I do not have the correct tools to do so.

From the photos the fonts on the dial look correct comparing to other examples I could find on the Web, and the engravings also look legitimate on the case back (but this could be a donor case). The lume looks a bit flat, but the numerals look correct.

I would be inspecting the watch in person if I were to purchase so what things should I be looking out for that cannot be easily seen in the photographs?

I have close to 100 hours researching these- doubt we'd see a 4xx serial one - 500 yes. I cannot conceivably put into words what I have looked into but there are good things on that dial - but there are also talented fakers out there.

@linesiders - So the seller is very adamant that the serial is 445XXX , so not sure really - but he is going to have the movement serviced so will hopefully get some caseback and movement photo's.

I will confirm the serial when/if i see it in person.

Hey guys,

Quick update. The watch has been serviced including a new crystal, but I believe nothing cosmetic has been done, as per my advice to the owner.

Also that the reference is 7965, however that again is close to 7995. But I have found one reference stating that 7965 and 7995 rangers were all but the same except for a different crown.

I am still to see the watch in person, but am considering the purchase

I like it, I think it is legit, still have a big problem with so low a serial number. Would love to go over this with a detailed inspection.

The seller still hasnt offered any pics that help us. There is no bracelet on that case, why cant the seller take some good pics of the engravings?

He has tried to send pictures of the engravings, but they weren't useful. He did however take to a vintage dealer who confirmed the date of around 1964 , which would confirm the 445xxx serial. The price that he is asking is very reasonable so I think I will chance it, but will have the opportunity to have a hands on look before buying.

So I purchased the watch today.

Confirmed it as a reference 7965, and serial as above. Ranger dial looks awesome in person!

No unfortunately no bracelet. Looking for one atm. Thinking a 7835 would be correct of maybe an earlier 19mm riveted bracelet.

A 64-65 dated watch would be a 7205 rivet bracelet with 57 end links
