Visiting Montreal...need recommendations

In town for a couple days for my bachelor party. What better way to commemorate the occasion than to buy a watch?!

Anyone care to suggest places in the city for pre-owned Rolex?

I haven’t been home in quite a while but I don’t recall there being very many places. Oh and have fun but go shopping AFTER the festivities.

If I recall correctly there's a Canadian seller on this forum that has an actual shop around that area. I'll have to try find a user name so you can look into it.

EDIT: I believe it's "canwatchco" that's based in Montreal. Maybe you can contact him and see if he does have a shop or would do a fact to face if this is indeed where he's still located.

Is it worth buying in Canada given the taxes and the relatively strong CAD?

I’m there at least once a year, but have never gone watch shopping

Chateau d'Ivoire does have a nice selection, haven't been there in a while but it's definitely worth a look.

I don't know where Canwatchco is but if you can contact him it would be good. Otherwise, last time I was at Kaufmann De Suisse (the Patek Philippe dealer in Quebec, one block away from Chateau) they had a small section with vintage Patek and Rolex watches, it's worth giving it a try while you're here.

I don't know how strong CAD is considered currently, I have seen quite a few tourists buying here despite the 14,975% taxes (when both are combined) add to the retail price of our goods.

Yup, Chateau d'Ivoire is the place to go for variety...Rolex, Tudor, Omega, etc. Easy to find in downtown.

Canada is actually one of the cheapest markets right now to buy a Rolex. Many ADs will ship overseas and you'll save the 13% taxes. And there's discounts to be had too (not on SS unless you're VVIP).

Other brands... Lange is one brand also notably cheaper than the US. PP and AP, I think we are one of the most expensive markets in the world, due to a lack of competition.

Chateau d'Ivoire is hit or miss in my experience. Kaufmann de Suisse is also worth a stop if you're interested in Patek.

Thanks gents...appreciate the suggestions. I’ll have to see what the prices are like to assess whether it’s sensible to buy from Canada, but that’s a great point.

Chateau d'ivoire doesn't have used watches. You can find used Rolex if you go to Timeless on Union street. Canadian dollar is very cheap so you can get deals. Don't mention you're American and negotiate hard.

Chateau D'ivoire is the best but not much used watches
bijouterie italienne is also a good place
Timeless on Union also keeps Rolex in stock, depending on your luck but i find them way too pricey on the used market.
Bobby use name "Canwatchco" has Rolex in stock and is a great seller
If you walk down St Catherine going east from Union there are a whole bunch of jewellery stores, I Dont remember the name of this one store but its just past "Angelica" he has a very large Rolex selection but they are kept in the back so you need to ask him to see them all.
Good luck

Edit: i think the Store on St Catherine is Marsan

I live in Montreal and Chateau D’Ivoire is the top! I personally know the owner’s son and you will get the best deals.

There are a few others as well as some used stores also like timeless watches.

I’m a member of CWC (Canadian watch collector forum) www.canwatchco.ca, and the founder “Bobby” lives in Montréal and has decent collections for sale.

Hit me up, if you want a shopping buddy . You’ll be surprised how much cheaper MSRP is here compared to US even with exchange rate.

Cheers
Lami

Chateau is were I buy all my Rolex. Great people. If you are looking for used, try Matt Baily watches. They have a pretty good selection of used Rolex and many other brands. They like to wheel and deal too. Good luck

Great let us know how you make out. You should also get on to Canwatchco. Bobby is great and his prices are all tax in. You factor in your exchange and you will do well.
