AD warranty vs Rolex warrenty on new DJ II

Is it true that when ADs discount a watch significantly because it’s a discontinued model (in this case the discontinued DJII) Rolex pulls its warrenty?

That’s what my AD told me today that she would give me a full 5 year warranty but through the AD not through Rolex and that I would not get the warranty card!!

It’s a BNIB watch with a really nice discount (almost 30%)

Is the above true?
Does it make sense?
Should I go for it?
Is it an issue Not having the Rolex warranty card ?

Never heard 'AD' not giving the warranty card. Usually grey market resellers (Costco, Jomashop, etc.) would hold on to the card and provide their in house warranty instead.

Chances are , you won't be using the warranty anyway. If you like the watch, I say go for it.

Makes no sense to me unless it’s a return and the AD already filled out the card. Or maybe it’s a trade or a grey purchase. Personally, I’d want the RSC warranty.

I do like the watch. And honestly I do like the 29% discount. But wondered if there’s anything I should be careful about or if the in-house warranty (local family owned AD) would not be as good as the Rolex warranty and would be worth me paying another $1000 or more just for that!

With it being bnib I wouldn’t see why I would need warranty anyway but you never know

Its part of things that belong with the watch. MUCH rather buy grey and receive everything that belongs with the watch. Trusted sellers here seem like a better option.

Yes 100% sure, they are listed on the Rolex website as one of the ADs

Her explanation is that with significant discounts Rolex doesn’t support warranty and they take the warranty card (in return for money to the AD) then they do in-house warranty

If I get to see the card and ensure it belongs to the watch would that make a difference?

Reading those answers make me somewhat suspicious as she assured me that’s a “common practice” whenever there is a significant discount

Of note I bought from them my new submariner a few weeks ago and got about 6% discount where this discussion didn’t even come up!

AD warranty vs Rolex warrenty on new DJ II

I've never heard that. It's time for a new AD.

If it's a new watch, regardless of how long it's been sitting at an AD, it should come with the Rolex warranty.

Some more experienced members might chime in, but that sounds like something shady.

you should receive a full 5 yr warranty and card
my latest dj2 is a tad over a year old and i have a full factory warranty for just under 5 years with card ,,,,
this AD dont sound right,,,,

new watch should have the card, anything else is a red flag imo.... selling at less then MAP under the table? and The AD would be punished by Rolex for selling under MAP.... if that's the ordeal in question... it's still shady dealings...

Sounds fishy. It doesn't matter the watch is discontinued - the current warranty still applies.

Heck, I know an AD that had a NOS Tridor from the mid-90s that never sold, and it still came with a 5 year warranty.

Would it make a difference if I ask to see the card, I ensure it’s empty and belongs to the watch but not take it in hand?

Thanks to all your advise. I honestly was just going to go get it but now I’m a lot concerned and wonder why would they do that! The only thing I can think of is giving that card back to Rolex they get money back which allows them to discount the watch that much. They give me part of it (in the discount) and keep the rest
It’s a Blue dial DJ II for $5100 with stickers and everything (except the darn card)!!

I don't see how an in-house warranty can be as good as RSC unless they have an watchmaker on staff and a Rolex spare parts account. Even with the discount you are paying a lot of money to risk ending up with a compromised watch if something goes wrong.

Smells fishy to me too.

Even in the Rolex world, a salesperson will say whatever it takes to make a sale. You'll probably never get the real story on this watch and it may be time to look for another AD.

Sounds like BS to me. A new Rolex comes with a Rolex warranty no matter what the AD sells it for. Otherwise more ADs would be doing this.

The discount has nothing to do with Rolex - it's your AD's profit margin.

To not give you the card has nothing to do with Rolex - it's your AD's issue only.

I would insist on the card or walk.

They're trolling you. You get the warranty once the card is filled up and swiped in their system. Has absolutely nothing to do if it's discontinued, unless it's like a Submariner 1680 they just found in the back.

Could be.. For 30% off, it should be a no-brainer. If the AD has a watchmaker on staff they can service your watch with their eyes closed if necessary.

I’d accept an in-house warranty in lieu of a Rolex warranty for a 29% discount, but only if the AD has a stellar reputation for repairs.

Well I say flip the script on them. Ask them for 15-20% off instead of 30% but you want the card with 5 years of rolex warranty. Done deal

Without the card your watch is a lot less valuable when you want to sell it. That puts the discount in perspective.

Rolex already knows the AD is selling the watch as that is where it was shipped to from Rolex USA.

30% off is a great deal but the AD is completely dishonest in their reasoning not to provide the card.

For me I wouldn’t care if I was keeping it but I would probably be asking a lot more questions as it does sound like a return.

Honestly if they don’t at least show me the warranty card and they still claim it’s new I’m reporting them to Rolex USA

If you take a Rolex to a RSC for warranty work how would they know how much you paid for it?

Find another AD if they wont give you the card.
