Another Rolex Dilemma

I want a new watch for my 30th birthday, but Im having a hard time deciding and would love to hear some TRF wisdom.

For sometime I've had my 16622 YM and what a great watch it is, but sometimes I find it a bit too dressy, I'm a big fan of sports watch. I have a seiko which I don't think Ill keep for much longer and Im going back to OWG. So here are my options.

Option 1: Flip the YM for a Hulk. I really like the Hulk, it's stealthy, functional and practical. I like the idea of not needing to make a decision.

Option 2: Keep the YM and add a Explorer 1. I've always had an eye on the Explorer, perfect zero f's given watch and use the YM for special occasions.

GMT's are out since I don't need a GMT function. Daytonas are out as well, I ordered one earlier this year and I came realize I'm just not a chrono guy, gave my spot to a friend. Unfortunately Seadwellers are out as well, they are just too big for me.

Grail is between PP5167 and YM 116655, most likely when the time comes I'll have to pair the grail with one of the watches above.

Any comments are highly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would add the explorer 1. The hulk is the opposite of stealthy IMO. With the explorer you get an understated but beautiful sports watch and you keep your true love (I think you will miss it)for other occasions.

Can I create a third option and suggest that you consider a 114060? That watch is gorgeous, IMO. If that’s not something you’re into, then adding the Explorer would be my next choice. The Hulk is loud, and definitely not a versatile watch compared to the Explorer!

I have to agree with this. 114060 if you want to be a OWG. I am and that's what I have. No other watch does it better. Besides, maybe, the EXP1.

Hulk prices are ridiculous anyway.

Keep and add; the Explorer will help preserve the YM through rotation!!!

LVc and 5167 would be my SS endgame, I am currently sitting on a LVc and 5164 and very happy.

I love these posts, what should I do? How can we tell you what to do? We dont know you or know what you like. Go to an AD or Rolex reseller store and try them on, and the one that puts the biggest smile on your face is the one.
Best of luck.

According to reports from the field, it is a bad time to get a Hulk..

YM are pillowy soft in terms of resale, so you might lose some $$$

Other than that, get what you WANT.

It’s hard to go wrong with either of those two options. I’d suggest the path of least resistance and add the Exp. As Fleetlord said, it’s a bad time to be on the market for a Hulk, and your YM seems to suit you sell. I’d add and see how it sticks. You can always flip the YM for the Hulk later on when the prices stabilize.....

I don't see the hulk as stealthy, explorer is the perfect sports watch

I biased for the Sub. That's my must have piece, but you cant go wrong with any choice, sorry no big help, but as one TRF said it's a good idea to try them on in person.

I agree with this option , there's not a big difference in price between an Exp 1 and the 114060 , if you're considering the Exp I guess you don't mind not having the date function, IMO the Sub is a better buy with the Glidelock and Ceramic Bezel.

I voted for add the explorer, but you have to be able to live without a date function.

But if he went with option 2 and keep the YM. He would have one with the date and one without :-)

As a Hulk owner who wears it just about every day, I agree, it is both beautiful and stealthy. I don’t get a feeling that I’m showing off like I do sometimes with a fluted bezel.

However, I do enjoy seeing pictures of your YM with the cool patina on the bezel! So it’s a tough call for me. Ideally I’d add the LVc and keep the YM.

Another vote for the Expy 1.

The Hulk is not very versatile imo.

Thanks everyone for their valuable inputs!

Decision has been made, some time next year I'll be selling my Yachtmaster for a Hulk, that is of course if I don't get my mind blown by Rolex at baselworld.

Thanks again!

Has to be either a Sub or Explorer, from your description. Not a fan of the green personally, but whatever floats yer boat, if you can find one. 114060/116610 great for every day.

Me, I voted with my walled this week and got a 214270. Excellent under the radar watch. Size is subtle. Light, balanced and comfortable. Large-ish dial to case size ratio, so very legible.

For a touch more bling without being over the top, check out a DJ41, tried on a smooth bezel blue oyster and it was WOW but a touch dressy for ME for every day, but I could see many pulling it off.

OK, I'm going to give two answers here.

One, from my point of view, I would ditch the YM for a LV any day of the week...but, that's me. Not many in front of the LV for my taste.

Two, for your collection and given your love and enjoyment of the YM, I would probably hold onto the YM and add the EXP, seeing as what your grails are for the future. If you got into grail territory, you could flip the YM for the RG Oyster Flex model and have the EXP for a casual beater. Pretty good scenario, I'd say.
