Remember when this was a thing?

Imagine you are going to buy that old school looking watch and give it as a gift for your father.

Now Imagine you're going to buy a newer, crisper watch, one that has not had the bark finish applied. Maybe even in white gold or rose gold.

WHO DOES THIS BARK FINISH?

Not who you think does it. Watchwerks does not. Michael Young does not.

It would be a nice gift, I thank you!

Those center links are really not very good looking. Reminds me of big gold nugget rings, hairy chests, cigarettes, and gambling in Vegas in the 1970s. Not that I was around then, but I've seen movies.

I think the bark DDs look really good in person. The contrast of the center links really make it pop.

I do have a very hairy chest and frequent Las Vegas many times a year, but I wasn't even alive in the 70s either. Oh, and I don't smoke and my wedding ring is silver.

I saw a family friend with an 1807 many years ago, and it was just simply stunning. The finish is something to behold, and they're getting very difficult to find in excellent condition. I went for a double quickset, sapphire variant. 27 years old, case back sticker still intact, and the gold has begun to turn a bit rosy. I absolutely love the piece. I wear it for me, but it garners way more comments than my much bigger and bolder D-Blue. I see DDs all the time, but a bark DD is a rare sight indeed.

IMO, I'd go for the real thing. No one has duplicated the finish as a passable factory finish. From my research, the bark was very labor intensive, hence the decision to stop producing it.

I personally wouldn't go bark on my only DD but if I had the means for multiple DD caliber watches, I would love to own a bark DD like the ones above. Super cool.

Now that this is a zombie thread floating in the ether (the OP now banished to the ash heap of history) - maybe somebody should try to get it locked...

As for barking DDs, I’d put it in same category as brushing SS PCL’s but with a bit more panache.

Maybe we should be barking all Sub bracelet center links?

Papers I have for the watch say it’s 19028. I must admit I had wanted a 19028 for a really long time and got so happy to come across this one. The dial is definitely super special as mentioned above. I don’t think I’ve seen another one like this on the internet that isn’t mines haha.
