Prefer buying from Gray Market or Online?

Anyone prefer buying Daytona or any Rolex from gray market dealers or online? Yes, No? Why? And from whom or where they getting Rolex that even AD don't have any in stock?

Waiting for years for Daytona SS #116500LN is too much !!!
Its not even special edition or once in a lifetime watch..

Looking forward to comments, suggestions.
Thanks!!!

Yes. Trusted Sellers - online. Less expensive, great service.
Getting stock from a network of sellers ( many former customers for used) and ADs / other resellers for new.

I’d much rather purchase from an AD.

I just got this one today from forum seller. It took trading in 2 watches but was well worth it for me.

If your looking for the new ceramic daytona they are popping up in the classifieds here fairly frequently. You are going to pay a premium for it (or for almost any ss sports watch for that matter) but their is no waiting list to get on.

AD only. I refuse to buy a "used" watch and especially so if i have to pay more money to get it.

Its a luxury product and IMO buying luxury goods second hand defeats the purpose unless you are talking about vintage.

There is one grey dealer I have purchased watches from. A reputable grey market is the greatest option for purchasing a pre owned (my opinion) and even some new Rolex watches because the savings can be big. There are some Rolex models that should be purchased from a AD.

Yes, watches which are sought after and not easy to get (with long waiting list), especially from the AD. I will purchase from a Grey Dealer/Trusted Seller as I would not want to wait years and years for that particular watch, life is too short. Other time pieces I purchase as normal from an AD. The question is how much should one pay depends on many things, money, emotion, etc. Lastly, I would purchase from a Grey Dealer/Trusted Seller within reason in terms of price. Good luck.

Mainly AD, or DavidSW.

Maybe Bobs, for any semi vintage.

Another AD buyer here. Sure I’ll pay more for some references but, swings and roundabouts, I’ll pay less for others.

Overall I accept that even if I end up paying more money overall, it’s worth it both for the future potential to get hard-to-get references at MSRP - a lot of SS BLRO buyers will be making a big chunk of money they previously “wasted” buying from an AD back on a watch that will be selling for 100% over on the grey market - and for the peace of mind that comes from having zero worries about things like shipping and authenticity.

I just purchased this from DavidSW. NIB, my name on the warranty card, and at a hefty discount. I have also purchased at an AD, but I prefer DSW

Too much "stories", lies and snobbish behaviour when buying from an AD.
For sure there must be very respectable AD's around, but I cannot find them.

Buying a watch must be easy, relaxed and hassle free, so I buy exclusively online from any TS who is happy with my business and not giving me the feeling they are doing me a favour.
Firm price, no waiting lists, no BS, straight forward, including delivery of all the bits and papers including card, warranty on your name and overnight delivery at your doorstep.

But whatever makes you feel comfortable is the best option. Price is not the only criteria

AD for both used & new (if used preff vintage) as others have mentioned. If not then the usual small batch of greys that we all are familiar with on this forum.

I would use an AD if I could get the Daytona-C at MSRP. Dream on and wait. If I was going to buy the watch from a non AD, David SW would be my choice.

I prefer AD at retail but if you don't want to wait and are ok with the premium go the other route.

Go to your local Omega boutique and buy a Speedy Pro if you want a chrono. Save money, get a better watch, and you can finally stop agonizing over a regular production watch.

Depends on how bad you want it! It may not be a special edition but it is very special and only you can decide how special. is it wait a few years and get at MSRP special and at that point MSRP will have went up or is it pay premium now to start enjoying the watch special? Then again it could simply be admire but not have to own special which is what many watches are for me.

In regards to Grey Market or Online aren't they virtually the same? Just buy the seller not the watch.

I buy new from an AD when I can, and when it's possible. However, I had to go with a TS when I wanted to buy my 16710 and 112470, because NIB from AD simply wasn't possible. I'm also not very patient. I'm going to talk to an AD today about getting a Daytona, and if they can make it happen in months and not years, then so be it, otherwise I'll bite the bullet and email David.

Yes I have been buying from a Grey Dealer in the North of England for the past four years. I only buy T/T Sports Models. I have bought two Rolex Daytona's & a Sub all new with fantastic savings. I live in Dublin Ireland & there are no Grey Dealers here whatsoever so every time I want a luxury Watch I get the Plane over to England to the same Grey Dealer I have been using for the past four years. There is only one Rolex AD in my City & they are looking for crazy money for their Watches so it makes sense to use this Grey Dealer over in England. In the last four years I have saved almost 7,500 Euro by doing this & I have a lot of respect for this Grey Dealer
