Other simple watches to consider?

Looking for some thoughts on <$6k watches

1. Greatly prefer without date.
2. Love some decent water resistant (100m)
3. Rubber strap (after market or not) looks desired
4. Thin is cool, medium is fine and thick is deal breaker

If money were no object a PP5167 would fit the bill, but as it turns out money is an object in my world.

Thinking about.
Rolex Explorer 14270,114270,214270 (large hands)
Rolex OP39 114300 white, blue or black like in that order
Zenith elite ultra thin (wonder how robust they are?)

I had a 214270 blackout but the hands bugged me. I made a rather long post showing how they were not proportional but since PB screwed us, can’t really read it anymore.

Don’t want to consider JLC or IWC at this time. I’m really interested in ANY brand for $100 - $6000. Would consider lesser watches is my point.

Here is my old watch that I would still have it it weren’t for the hands. Also a zenith elit for those who may not be familiar.

Appreciate your thoughts Trf.

I like all of your choices. For other clean, simple watches, you might consider the Omega Seamaster 300 (yes, it's a diver and it may be a little thick but it has a small bezel, no date, and is very clean and classic looking), something from Nomos (the Ahoi has a screwdown crown and is good to 200m), or something from Stowa (some have screwdown crowns and rubber straps). If these don't come on rubber straps, you could always add one.

Have fun in your search and let us know what you decide.

Zenith defy closed dial on rubber is the way to go...thin, light and can be had for less than 6k for sure. Or get the bracelet version and get the rubber strap later...which is what I plan to do.

Omega Aquaterra titanium white dial goodplanet special edition with blue hands. Either in water proof fabric strap or titanium bracelet. It was on my shortlist till I switched to another brand. Excellent legibility, very light on the wrist and a good movement with 150m wr. This would be 38.5 mm. if you want GMT then get the 43mm version of it. Very similar. You can’t go wrong. You pay a premium for the special edition. You can choose to go the non special edition way to lower the outlay. Multiple options available and at a good price point either Ad, grey or used. Keep us posted!

You own a zenith? I’m wonder how tough they are movement wise.

My brother in law recently got a Nomos and has had a decent amount of trouble with it. Bought it brand new too.

Thx for suggestions. Stowa pilot chrono has been on my list some time but want the water resistance.

I could be wrong of course but the last watch I remember you posting was a 5 digit and you said Explorer so only need to decide if you want vintage vibe or the latest.

I have a GS sbgx291 that checks most of those boxes, but you'd need to fit the rubber strap yourself. It's thin (because it's 9F quartz), 100m WR, no date.

The nomos club campus 38 is another possibility. Thin, no date, 100m WR, and you're getting a great in-house movement. 1400 euros with display caseback

You may or may not like Black Bays but regardless I'd say go and handle the new Fifty-eight. Very different from the pre models.

Moser if the price can work. Best dress at these prices for me, just below Lange.

I have no idea the toughness of the movement as I just bought it this past week. I’ll have to test it out the a hammer or something...jk

Agree with the above on Nomos, like the way they look! Omega speedy pro is a good choice for a simple do it all watch to me

Toughness being wear it and don’t care. Cut the grass, ride a bike, swim, etc

Rolex/Seiko could handle it easy. I call them tough.

Yes it seems it’s up to the task for normal wear. It’s rated to 100m but does not have a screw down crown. I’m getting a rubber strap to put it on kind of so I can wear it a little more care free because I want to keep the bracelet nice...the bracelet is really amazing too.

I'd look more into Nomos. Maybe your brother in law got a rare lemon. As for more simple design watches in that price point, I'd also suggest:
Omega railmaster
JLC master control date sector dial

I agree. I haven't heard of any Nomos watches having problems. They make good watches, although I think they're a bit overpriced but are a great deal used. Also, good call on the Omega Railmaster. There are a couple different dial versions available and the watch is very attractive and and a very fair price. And if the JLC Master Control Sector Dial didn't have a date it would be perfect.

Speedy Pro or Explorer I at medium thickness or the Nomos in the thin. New Explorer 1 > $6k though.

Agree. That JLC MC sector would've been perfect without that date. Honestly, most watches, imho, would be better without a date. Very rarely is a date window asthetically pleasing to me.

Nomos is a disappointment in person- Feels cheap to me. I love their designs though. As for your options id personally go with the new OP39 White dial. I recently got one and its by far one of the nicest watches to come out of Basel this year.

I disagree about Nomos. I love them. I think their designs are great and the quality at the price range they sit at are great, too. Lovely movements, great amount of colors, and the designs are quirky and exude fun.

However, the Oyster Perpetual 39 is just wonderful, too.

Both are wonderful choices.
