What do you all think about this trade?

A local dealer is offering me to trade his K Serial Pepsi for my Datejust II with me putting 2000 on top of my watch. Do you all think I should do it?

I would do that trade, but I prefer the DJ41 over the 2 so take my opinion with a grain of salt. For instance I would not do that trade for a blue DJ 41/fluted/jubilee.

How much more do you like the Pepsi over the DJ2?

I like the Pepsi’s looks more but I like the way the Datejust II is built a lot better. Of course because of the year differences

I would not do this trade ever. I don't like Pepsi, never mind paying 2k more. Save 2k and wait for Pepsi C if you like it.

I guess. But see if you can squeeze him to $1500 plus the watch. Crazy that you have give a watch 10 years newer and that retailed for about $9500 plus another $2k for a watch 10 years older that retailed for under $5k when new.

what is the condition of each? Do they both come with complete sets? Is your watch still under warranty?

DSW has your exact watch for sale, complete set, excellent condition still under warranty for $8575. No offense, but you wouldn't be able to compete with David if you sold it privately, so your sale price would probably be $1000 under or even less.

That puts the value of your watch closer to $7500, which kind of means you're paying about $9500 for the 16710. That's not too far off the market assuming the condition is good, and if it comes with a complete set.

Considering the dealer has to make some money to cover overhead and risks involved, and make a living, i'd say the money is pretty fair.

Really comes down to which you like more.

As someone mentioned above, I wouldn't do this for a DJ41, but for a DJ2 I would. So I'm kind of the wrong person to ask since I simply don't care for the DJ2. However, yours is one of my favorite configurations from that line. Tough call, follow your gut.

I’d never trade with a dealer. Will never beat selling private if you do it right imho.

What do you all think about this trade?

I’m thinking of just keeping my Datejust II. I put a deposit on a Hulk last month that I’ll be getting in 6-7 months. So I think a dressy Datejust II and Hulk would be perfect 2 watch collection for me

I would take that trade if the Pepsi's paperwork and history looks as good as it does, but I'm biased, it's one of my favourites - just look at those photos!

So he’s charging you a premium for his watch and taking yours at a significant price cut! Unfair to me!

Your slate sunburst DJ is so striking, I'd probably keep it and just save for a new Pepsi. You can't buy those memories back.

Agree with these guys...the money is fair (assuming condition and completeness of the set) and I would much rather have a Pepsi than a DJ (of any flavor). For some reason, DJ's just don't hang around in my collection. And that Pepsi's value is going nowhere but up.

I probably wouldn't do it, but that's just me. I don't like the folded metal clasps of the 5 digit serial watches. I'd rather trade the DJ in towards a DJ41 instead. Just my opinion.

Yea that’s the only thing I don’t like the clasp on older models. As far as the Datejust 41 I don’t like the clasp mixed with the jubilee

I love the Pepsi, but the prices are insane and they are not difficult to source. I mean good condition 3186 pepsi’s Are almost in precious metal territory with prices and certainly in ss Daytona range. That should be an even trade and would have been 2 years ago.

Also prefer the dj41 but if you have your eyes on the Pepsi, then why not?

I wouldn't. Not even if I didn't have to add cash.
Don't like the hollow links or stamped clasp.

Tough call. If the DJ isn’t seeing any wrist time, sure, but I would then probably sell the DJ and buy the new SS BLRO.
