No Wait List at AD?!?!

So I went to an AD in Bethesda with the intent to buy a ballon bleu, a PM president, TT Datejust, and get on the list for a sport model (e.g GMT/Sub). Made it very clear I’d buy what they had in stock today and what they don’t have when it gets here.

Couldn’t even get me on the waitlist for any GMT/Sub. Let alone a hulk, Pepsi, BLNR.

These are presents - I’ve got no problem waiting a year (or two) but the fact that there isn’t a list just pushes me to the gray market dealers (for all of the above).

I feel bad for any AD that’s in such a bad spot (or doesn’t have the wherewithal to find a solution).

Anyone else have the same problem?

you shouldn't even have to buy all that just to get a pepsi/hulk/blnr let alone a gmt/sub...and they wouldn't even put you on a list? lol

take your business elsewhere

What they didnt tell you is they already sold all their GMT/Subs via the backdoor to a very very good customer that buys like 50+ watches per year.

They are certain he is not a gray dealer he just likes to buy multiples of the same watch and gives them some extra pocket cash for premium items. LOL

I visit that AD frequently and have had no luck with them whatsoever. Top down issues. Try some of the other ADs in the DC area (Tyson’s Corner- Fairfax square, Alexandria, & DC). Depending on which specific model, you should be able to get on a list without purchase and be treated correctly.

Saw a no date sub in the case at a Dallas AD while passing through last week. So just need to search around for the subs I think. Must have also meant they cleared their entire list for that to have happened.

With that kind of purchase you should be able to not only be able to get on a list, but have one magically appear ahead of everyone else on "the list".

Try a different AD.

Just visited AD yesterday in Costa Mesa (south coast plaza) - ritzy mall in Orange County, CA, just outside Newport Beach.

Anyway, went into the back where SS sports models used to adorn the display cases. They had a Milgauss GV and full rose gold Daytona.

I asked to get on Pepsi list. She laughed and asked if I had any watch history in this exact store. I said no. She said all sports SS are handled by corporate. I asked what that meant - she said by her manager and without history there, I could not even speak to that person.

Just wait until supply comes back...Buy the piece you want elsewhere... Waltz back in that AD and shake your watch in her bloody face.

The scheme is this their isn’t really a list the ADs get your information along with others put it somewhere then when they see inventory they hit the phones then their manager approves who gets the Rolex by purchase history with that store.

I bought from a chain that has 22 stores better chance for me to get the Rolex I want. I’ve bought 5 watches in two years they now told me I am a VIP lol. I just told them call me when my ss SkyD blue gets in and walked out.

With that amount of purchase you should be on top of the list.

Rolex waiting lists are all part of Rolex's marketing genius. There's no need for it apart for pure marketing to create a heightened sense of demand. Not unlike seeing a long queue of people at a store, club or restaurant.

As said must be a lot of bigger fish ahead of you and the AD is past the BS stage so they are just telling you straight no dice here, better than fake list news.

The only thing about this I don’t get is how it makes Rolex money. It obviously does and that’s why they do it but still asinine.

E.g. if they made the correct number to meet the demand they’d sell them at asking price.

By limiting supply they push people to other comparable brands (e.g AP, omega, etc).

I think the above are probably right. I was probably talking to a SA that may not have known the process or the list and that’s why I didn’t even get to the person that has the list.

Some AD willing to put your name on the list, some won’t, and other will just put the watch in a display case and selling it on first come first serve. Only supporting those AD that want to sell you the watch, not those AD that kinda forcing you to buy this and that just to get the model that you want.

To date, no one has stopped me on the street and pointed out that my 228235 came from a gray dealer. The discount you’ll get on your DD will more than make up the premium they’re charging for any sport model.

Take your money elsewhere.
You're in the US. Although supply is tight, they should be able to get you a GMT or Sub without too much of a wait.

They make money from selling watches. They will sell even more watches because of the attention and hype created from waiting lists which increases the exposure, perceived exclusivity and the desirability of the brand.

They don't need a waiting list to sell their current inventory, it is purely a stealth marketing excerise.

My AD stopped adding names to the list. There are 70+ for the new Pepsi, 50+ for either SS Sub version, and similar for the SD43, Daytona, etc. they are tired of telling people it'll be 7 years before you ever have a chance to get the watch so they stopped the lists. There truly is no purpose or benefit to the customer at this point.

My AD sold me a black Daytona C with the purchase of a gold piece. If I buy another gold piece they will get me a white dial Daytona c. It seems each AD have their own rules.

You seem to have some time, be patient. It’s a seller’s market, which may be changing a bit given the GMD’s inventories.

What a mess. It’s funny the gimmicks that evolve when demand for a product exceeds the supply.

That seems a bit odd. With my purchase they happened to have a new one the day before where the transaction fell through so I picked my exp II up. Granted, not the timepieces you are talking about but the AD was happy to show it and let it go.
