Craigslist authenticy. 1st Rolex

Hey folks,

My other Rolex I asked about didn’t work out.
The guy never messaged back about viewing in person.

Found this watch locally on Craigslist. Guy supposedly got a divorce and needs the cash. It’s a 16233 like I want.

Everything look ok?

I can’t find anyone local that will look at it for me an verify authenticity.

Thank you.

How close are you to the original reseller Ponte Vecchio Time?

The watch itself looks ok. I’d personally suggest another sales platform.

I undertsand about looking at other platforms, I really love/want a 16233 in good shape for around $4,000.

It’s hard to find online, guess I may just need to save a while longer and get some more $$.

Thanks

Please take close up side photos of the bracelet links

Watch looks OK, and you are buying from a bricks and mortar store

Why would the warranty card say Ponte Vecchio Time and the receipt Zales. Something smells fishy. Appears there's evidence of erased inscriptions on the white strips of that warranty card, plus the double script is also odd.

Yea, I'd like to know the Zales/PVT connection too. Other than that, the watch looks good. The next problem is how to do a safe F2F transaction. Suggest meeting at a safe place/police station to do the deal, and bringing someone else and letting them hold the money. Inspect the watch and get it on your wrist first, before handing over the money. Just suggestions, a lot can go wrong. What about the sellers on this site?

I agree and now it is on Craigslist?

Nothing special about this watch, be patient and find another from a real seller.

That watch is almost 30 years old and nothing that it is shown with is Rolex, or native to a Datejust.

The "warranty" may have been good for somebody at some point, but it is not considered Rolex "papers".

I think that this is a bit pricey from what I see if it is at your $4k price point.

I didn’t see any asking price mentioned - but for $2.5-3K you would have a decent deal.

A visit to almost any decent pawn shop, you could have it opened and look at it.

Thank y’all.

He’s asking $4,700. Have him to $4,100 cash.

Think I’m just gonna wait and get exactly what I want.

I’m just verify excited to finally be purchasing a Rolex.
I need to be patient and wait.

I really want blue/royal blue dial that has been recently serviced.

purchasing your first Rolex from Craigslist with not much knowledge about Rolex....what could go wrong?

Even if you got a genuine watch, you'd have ABSOLUTELY no way to tell, it could have fake non-rolex parts on it, it could be stolen so when you service it it is never returned to you, it may stop running in a day since the movement could need $1000 in repairs, they could show you pics online of a gen watch and show up with a fake ringer that you'd have no idea to authenticate, it could be completely fake, they steal your money, etc etc.

Go for it.

If you want the dial to be part of a genuine Rolex, I suggest that you buy from TS or AD.

If you don't value money, by all means, buy your Rolex on Craigslist.

Thanks for everyone’s advice.

I found a local Rolex servicer and had him verify the watch. Everything was original Rolex and the watch was serviced in April 2017.

Didn’t have original box or papers.
Paid him $3,500.

I had 2nd thought about spending the money driving to meet him. However, after putting the watch on I immediately fell in love and started stuttering when talking.

It’s very clean and fits perfect!

A huge congrats! Looks beautiful! I'm glad everything worked out and you ended up getting the watch you wanted. You got a good price on it too. Great job!

We can't see your face in that picture, but I just know there was a huge smile on your face when you took it. That's what owning a Rolex is all about imo.
