Which Rolex is the right one for military use?
Recoil when firing, vibrations, running, swimming, blows ...

Do not recommend G Shock, nor quartz.

In the early 90s, I wore a sub for almost my entire 4 years as USMC infantry. The only issue I had was I caught the clasp once and bent it. I doubt even that would occur with the newer clasp design. Don't forget Roex used to be an issued item. I say go for it!

Explorer or explorer 2, both more durable, less stuff to break. I just wear a G-Shock though, I’d feel uncomfortable wearing a Rolex with my crew, plus I don’t get paid enough to trash a Rolex.

When I was a flight surgeon in the Navy I wore my Explorer II and Navitimer all the time, including during helo flights. They did get a little banged up, here and there. I normally had a flight suit and gloves covering them.

Dual time zone function will be much more useful for you than timing bezel on diver watches.

Less moving parts.

More subtle, as modern diver Rolex watches have a shiny ceramic bezel.

2 dial options.

Slimmer lugs.

Sub will work, but if your wrist is small it might feel heavy. If I run in it, even if it is snug, I can feel it wanting to shake around on my wrist. Might have the same issues with all the activities you talk about if you have a small wrist. However, I exercise all the time with my 36mm Explorer, and I never feel it. They don’t make it anymore, so consider the 36mm OP. For the activities you mention, I don’t recommend the sea dweller. It might get in the way unless you have large wrists.

Sub in the field or Sub Date if you're riding a desk. The bezel is handy to mark time.

I'd opt for an older one with lug holes simply because a paper clip is the only tool you need to size or remove the bracelet.

5 digit sub or gmt would be my recommendation. I did not serve but have spent over 20 years in the fire service and in law enforcement and have never had a problem with my 5 digit sports models wearing all the gear and getting physical.

USMC. Wear a 16610 sub every day. Was leaning towards the 14060m initially. Before I purchased it, I paid attention to how much I looked at my watch for the date and realized I had to have a date function. Funny enough I got it from Bob's.

I'm about 50/50 on putting it on a strap in the field. Sometimes I do, sometimes I leave it on the bracelet.

Never had an issue with it so far PTing, in the field, or on a range. Haven't deployed with it yet (purchased after my last deployment), but it will go with me wherever I go. All the dings and scratches on it tell it's story and I'm quite happy with it.

I would recommend the sub or the Exp II. I was very close to buying that one as well.

The sub is probably the obvious choice. The timing bezel could prove handy too. Although of course depending on which branch of military would have a bearing on the best option.

For those of you who’ve extensively worn a Rolex for the range - has it withstood the repeated recoil without issue?

I have and it should. But you risk scratching up a nice watch, depending on the positions that you're shooting from.

Back in the day I used a GMT. Tough as a Rolex can be with the GMT function which I used as a part of my worldwide Operations Center function.
