Datejust 41mm winding noise

I have a question about this watch which I acquired the other week. When winding it up, which I have to do as I don't wear it all the time, after about 40 turns it seems to make a slight grating noise. I think maybe this is the mechanism kicking in so that it cannot be overwound. Has anyone else noticed this?

When the mainspring is fully wound up its just slips in the spring-barrel just like it would while on the wrist.

That’s what it is. It’s not broken.

It does sound typical of what happens when fully wound.

Thanks for the replies, didn't think it was broken, must be the new mechanism as my older sub doesn't make the same noise

There can be some variation between different watches.
Also a difference between a watch that is getting nearer to service time and a watch that is freshly serviced.

I can tell there's a distinct difference between when my wife's watch was brand new over a couple of years ago, and the way it feels now when manual winding.
