Submariner like a Ford Escort

I was in Rolex UK, St. Jame's Square today enquiring about getting my 1978 Submariner 5513 serviced. I asked whether they will carry on servicing this particular model for the foreseeable future. "Oh, yes" replied the engineer "it's the equivalent of the original Ford Escort. It'll still be around being used and serviced for years and years to come".

You Brits have a different view of the Ford Escort. It was a throwaway car here in the US, mostsly used for fleets and first-time buyers.

It was kind of KSENOFON to upgrade the watchmaker to an "engineer"..
Perhaps he was fixing escorts before he worked for Rolex...

I think they use better quality S/S and more of it than what was used on the Ford Escort!

Maybe he was saying how common the Submariner is and that the Ford Escort was a common car and parts are available, long after production.

An apt comparison. For years Escorts were the unglamorous workhorses of the road. Although the Sub is a glamorous watch its movement is a robust, unglamorous workhorse - same thing realy
