Daytona function question

Merry Xmas All!

So in love with the Daytona, but as newbies do, I have a question related to the function of the watch as when I wear my Sub-Date, I just wear it and forget about it. The Daytona, it seems, requires that extra step of TLC..

Question is, when unscrewing both pushers to start the timing function on the Daytona, do I need to leave these both unscrewed until I am done with the timing (whenever that point of time may be) or can they be screwed both back in & the timing function left to do it’s thing?

I’m thinking along the points of if I ever took this thing in the water, etc, etc. Can the timing function be left going along in the background, while obviously both pushers are screwed firmly back intact?

Thanks All

You can leave the pushers screwed or unscrewed and leave the timing hand running or not.

Just don’t operate the pushers under water even though they are rated to 100 metres screwed in or not.

Thank you!

I was just thinking in the context of pressing the pusher to start the watch & then just leaving it running continuously but obviously for those events in life that involve water, then screwing the pushers back down & letting it still run.

It’s funny how with the Submariner, I just strap it on my wrist & don’t give it a second thought as to where I wear it. Haha.

I run my Daytona stopwatch hand all the time as a second hand.

The pushers don’t know if they are screwed down or not as the are no seals on the screw locks.

Do you screw your pushers back down when taking the Daytona near, or in water?

I have my pushers screwed in all the time.

Less chance of damage...they do stick out a bit far when unscrewed.

The screw down part of the pusher has no effect on water resistance. The seal is inside the case. So the pusher is equally water resistant open or screwed down. The reason to screw it down in the water would be to prevent it from accidentally being pushed while submerged.

Thank you. I’ll set the chrono & then screw both pushers back down and let it run. Just love seeing it all working at once.

Does running the chrono make much difference on the power reserve of the Daytona as opposed to not running the chrono function at all?

Recommendation is that pushers must be screwed in if in the water.

There is a post here on TRF about Daytona power reserve when running chrono. One person said he/she tested it and didn't noticed big difference.

You cannot get something for nothing in physics, so, yes, running the extra set of gears will affect the power reserve.

It is small enough that you are unlikely to notice though.

Just found this:

“Inside it contains 44 Jewels and has an approximate power reserve of 72 hours, which decreases to a total running time of 66 hours with the chronograph function running.”
