2 x Comex on Antiques Roadshow

A 20 year retired diver brought his own 2 Comex watches to be valued. First one has no Comex logo, but HEV and Comex on back. Valued at £20k. 2nd one box and papers and Comex logo valued at £50-60k. Gentleman looked shocked!!

I watched and enjoyed, but I think they’re worth more no?

Definitely way more than they were valued.

That’s what I thought? Box and papers and the watch with his name all over it + original diving log books!

Don’t understand why a Comex Rolex is desired by collectors and attracts a huge premium, but a Dominos Rolex does not. They are both commissioned commercially for internal distribution with a company logo added to the dial.

Is it because diving is cool but pizzas are not?

Show me a Domino’s Pizza Rolex which can match the adventures of this watch and its Royal Navy Clearanace Diver / Comex owner...

...and one which reflects cutting edge technology of its day being developed in an industry where men regularly lost their lives, and then perhaps we might engage further.

2 x Comex on Antiques Roadshow

Well, it’s nice for the actual Comex divers to whom they were originally issued as a memento of their working lives. It’d be nice for them to be passed as heirlooms within their families and I hope the man featured on the tv show does that. But I can see how it appeals to wealthy collectors who want to buy into their history and are willing to pay huge sums for that.

I’d say the same for Dominos franchisees and employees who have achieved to earn their specially commissioned Rolex as a memento of their working life for the company.

It's partly because the Dominos are Airkings and the market doesn't care about old Airkings.

Also, making and selling Pizza is boring and has no adventure to it.

But, I think you already knew all that, didn't you?
