The famous anchor...

Funny story form this evening.

Went into my AD to trade out my box (my Z series SD came in the old wooden box - apparently just some mistake by the store). No big deal, but the manager couldn't believe I had an anchor since I just bought my SD last month.
Customers and staff wanted to see the infamous anchor. Manager even said that a guy came in a while ago to buy a gold Sub and almost cancelled the sale when he found out it wouldn't come with an anchor! The manager wasn't able to get him an anchor from anywhere. Little did they know there was an anchor in the back room all this time...

A neat side-story, saw the guy who bought his grail watch the same night I bought my SD. He said he was hoping he would see me again so he could thank me for talking him into the watch! He bought a Brietling, and it's one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen.

End note .... got my new box and got to keep my anchor

Not officially.

You could make a request of your AD though and you could get lucky if he happens to have an old one lying around.

Plenty of anchors on fleabay, are they mostly fakes? Some seem to have a Tbar on them and some don't have the bar. Which is correct?

A few of those guys sell a whole bunch of anchors...makes me wonder.

Actually, the 18k Gold Subs used to come with a solid-gold anchor.

Last I checked, 1-troy ounce of gold went for $898 in the market.

Anyone know how many ounces the gold anchor weighed in at? I figure from a market-perspective, that anchor is probably worth $1200? However, as it is a Rolex-anchor, it's probably closer to $1600????

Did you get lucky enough to get the 4000 ft. anchor, or the 1000 ft. anchor? Either way, cool story!

It's the 1000. Where does the 4,000 come from?

the depth rating is on the anchor and when given out with the watches...should have matched the watch. submariner=waterproof to 1000 ft. sea-dweller=waterproof to 4000 ft. so the correct anchor for your SD should have the 4000ft print, not 1000 ft. but its VERY cool to have one...I have a couple...one I wear as a necklace...If you'd like a SD anchor...let me know..I think I may have one.

OMG, I would love one! My dad's Sub doesn't have an anchor so if I had an extra he could have that one ....

Won't get many anchors from AD's now.

They go for about £20 on Eeeb nowadays.

I cashed in a favour with a buddy to get TR's anchor and I've struggled to find Toph and JJ one since.

If there is £20 to be made, they aint gonna be found for free!!!!!!!!!!!!

J

PS I thought it was a wives tale that the anchors were gold when you bought a gold Sub!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen here you old anchor...My Anchor was a gift from a Rolex collecting buddy, TR's was a cash in...I've run out of favours now so I'm stuck for JJ, Toph and Karis.

And no, I do not need any ideas for new favours....

J

PS all them Subs you have, you must have one or two laying around!!!!

I got one a year ago from an AD in Valley forge, Pa. I went in to look and got to talking with the manager. I mentioned that I didn't get an anchor with the "M" series Sub and that I wished they would still include them and he said hold on just a minute and went in the back room. He came back out with an anchor for a SS Sub! I was very surprised to get it. I didn't buy anything from him either. Super nice guy.

Seems I bought a bunch of them from a member here. He was selling period hand tags, booklets, holders, and anchors. I will look in the safe tonight and see what I have.
