Well I guess it's settled. Yup, it was a dealer who called it tropical, I thought I was missing something for thinking it's closer to being totally destroyed.

That's a VERY rare Chicken Pox dial, far more rare than the Falling Leaf dial, or Stardust dial.

Maybe both - the telltale blackening in the lume says moisture got inside for some period. Then owner may have overdone the oven drying process.

And the hands were not original as well. Evidenced by the lack of black spots in their lume.

To be clear, any change over time is "damage" as none of the changes were intended by Rolex. Like a suntan versus a sunburn, the key is how much damage there is. A little is often seen as a good thing, a lot is bad. That is a lot.

everything depends on the price .... meters first 200m dials in any condition are rare. so if the serial calls for this dial, it'll take you many years and many $1000s to find a better one.
