I love the Air-King, but there is no way in hell that it will break any Rolex auction record(s).

Nope but if I owned it and some idiot was willing to pay a lot more than I paid then it would be sold.
You can soon get another one

Wouldn't surprise me if it sold for about the same as a normal AK.

No, but Jack Nicklaus’ Day-Date might.

Whoever pays loads for this is just plain stupid....just so easy for Rolex to make another the same....double the price yes as it’s an oddity, but crazy money for it would be just daft on the buyers part

It will be interesting to see what that watch makes at auction. I do not think this will be a record breaker by any stretch of imagination.

Might get a bit extra if it keeps getting hyped like that, but it's not interesting to me at all. Just an error that could be custom-done if anyone wanted it.

If that got out of the Rolex factory I would sack the lot of them on quality control!

Can’t be real from the factory, no way.

Exactly my thoughts.
The error is too big to go unnoticed.
Someone must have replaced the 3 with the 9 to get Youtube views.

I’ve seen this mentioned on IG, people saying it’ll be 100 million and such.

Seriously I cannot see it getting anywhere near Paul Newman levels. My Mrs has never heard of Jack Nicklaus but certainly has Paul Newman. Also (as bad as this sounds) he’s still very much alive. Value of objects like this is very much linked to fame and seems to expand massively if they’re not with us. PN Daytona was a perfect storm IMO.

If people think this will be PN levels, does that mean Tiger Woods’ deep sea would be worth even more?

Plus, the watch itself isn’t exactly a highly desirable piece. Old Daytona regardless of provenance is way more desirable and a ‘normal’ one is worth, what? 10-20 times the price of a DD?

I hope it makes a fortune for charity but I’d fall off my chair if it makes anywhere near PN levels. I’d actually think it was worth in the thousands of dollars.

Anyone that pays a premium for this is batpoop crazy! I’d say there’s a 99.9% chance someone has faked the error.

Even if it is a genuine mistake, if it goes for loads of money all it’ll do is spawn copycat ‘mistakes’ and then then the value will be gone as it’ll be in amongst a sea of other similar mistakes that also can’t be proven.

Be interesting if Rolex came out & said it was impossible for it to happen as there’d have to be an extra hole in the dial to fit a 9. Can you imagine if that happened! Someone spends a fortune and then they say even if a 9 fell into the 3 box it’d bounce off the dial as there’s no extra hole lol

It is an air king though... the mistake might make it so valuable it’ll make the dizzy heights of RRP

Pretty easy to miss at first glance with so many numerals on the dial.

Maybe their inspector needed glasses as well. Rolex would happily replace the dial I suspect. Seen this one before.

So your guess is somewhere north of $15 million.

I'm going to say less than 1/1000th of that.

LOL. With threads like this , Peter will definitely retire from TRF.
Seriously, we’re light years away from a world record with this ugly AK .

What will be great is when the purchaser sends it in to the RSC for a service, and they swap the dial out.

I'd pay extra for one with just the 3, 6 & 9 and not the goofy 5,10, 20, 25, 35, 40, 50 & 55.

This thing is a joke. It absolutely 100% did not leave Rolex like that. The amount of hands that would have passed through before being sold makes it impossible. That’s not forgetting the QC scanners/imagers used by Rolex.

It’s such an easy error to recreate with 2 dials to hand. I’m just wondering when the double 3 version is going to crop up?

I agree, it would be stupid to pay a premium for this example. That said with the amount of publicity this one error watch has gotten, I would not be surprised if it sells for a good chunk of change...
