That will also push up grey prices too (a rising tide lifts all boats). A vicious circle. I agree though, rrp could be higher and would still sell no bother.

A price increase just further limits the market for real first time buyers. Rolex new are priced fairly for what you are getting. That should be manufacturer's concern to their retail clients. What they sell for used is what it is at any given time and may fluctuate greatly. I know its hard to believe but if the watch market cools and the used price drops down to MSRP, the Rolex new market will suffer if it aggressively raised prices. It is also very tough to lower the price on luxury goods, so you end up with overpriced watches again sold at steep discounts destroying the value of the brand long-term.

Isn't Rolex already overpriced? I own a few different brands and I feel that my GS and Omega, priced at roughly 35% lower than a comparable Rolex, are just as nice in quality and workmanship. Although I don't know if Rolex is a superior watch in terms of horology.
Is comparing Rolex to GS and Omega an apples to apples comparison? |

No. Rolex watches are priced right around where they need to be. That is one thing that makes them so popular. They are an obtainable luxury brand.

I wish they would, then I could just move on as they would be well out of my pay grade.

While I don’t think you are wrong, Rolex’s history and saying true to their brand (for example not making a million limited editions) is an intangible asset that is being priced in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think a 10% increase across the board (or at least across all professional models, except for maybe the Platinum Daytona) would have minimal, if any, impact on the current supply/demand issue. If you're ready to spend $9,000 retail on a watch, does $9,900 from the same retailer cross a "breaking" point where you walk away and not want the watch anymore? Not trying to sound like a snob here, but if that increase in price stops you from buying the watch, you might not be ready to buy the watch (whether it's due to financial reasons or you just not liking it enough to justify the increase).

Yeah, totally agree about paying for the brand. I guess based on my logic most luxury watches are overpriced. Didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If they raised prices I would sell all my Rolexes immediately to cash in. Then buy Omega and take a trip with the change.
I like Rolex but not at prices higher than current MSRP |

I sense the people suggesting a price hike are Rolex marketing, testing the opinion to see if they can get away with yet another higher than inflation price rise.
Who actually wants to pay more for anything without any improvement? Let's all pay 10-20% extra for cars, so we can feel superior about driving. It's just a nice watch. |

Go ahead and sell your Rolex watches. What you sell them for has no relation to MSRP so MSRP is not relevant. Cash in and enjoy your trip. |

And a few years ago, we here, were speculating about the pricing and exclusivity and were convinced Rolex was on a path to go more premium and Tudor would slot into pick up the interest and waiting lists with interesting subs and GMT’s
The latter turned out to be true but sadly the supply is just as bad as Rolex in some cases! |

Prices go up every year, just not on every single model reference. I would hate to see more blanket increases. They're already so high that it makes no sense to buy anything other than the select few stainless watches that retail value. I want an OP39 in white, but I'd take a $2,000 loss as soon as I step out of the AD. I'd love to buy my wife a two-tone Datejust 36 in rose gold and steel with a white dial, but it's $10,000 and I would lose $3-4,000 as soon as she straps it to her wrist the first time.
It makes sense to buy a Submariner, Daytona or GMT Master II today, so I guess you could make the case for prices on those models being increased modestly, but there are beautiful other models that never rarely get sold simply because they don't have good value retention. Going up on those would make them sit even longer.

Is it crazy to think that a one watch per household for 2019 would be a good way to discourage flippers but also give new owners a chance to embrace the brand?

Why do you want to pay even more just because of the logo? The brand is already one of the worst values out there strictly from the standpoint of the quality of watch you're getting.
