Omega SMP 2254.50 vs. 2538.20?
If you had to chose one and it would be your only Omega, which one would you go for?

This time last year I owned these:
Over the years I had owned four "Great Whites" and they were never comfortable on my wrist. I finally figured out the problem - the case was too thick to fit under my shirt cuff. Plus, the weight was such that the watch slid from side-to-side on my round 7 3/4 inch wrist. So I decided to sell the GMT - again. But I wanted a GMT in my collection and decided on the Explorer II with its thinner profile. But to fund the Rolex, I also had to sell the "electric blue" SMP. The "electric blue" was my favorite but I kept the 2254.50 as I thought black would be more practical and versatile. Bottom line, I cannot wear the "Great White". If I could I would probably still have all three SMPs. If I could wear the GMT and could have only one, it would be the GMT which I consider to be the most beautiful of the SMPs. I cannot vote for you but for me, I chose black although I have now customized it with a new dial and bezel: My 2¢. Fr. John† |

For me it would be the White GMT hands down.
I owned the White faced GMT a LONG time ago (almost when they first came out), and reluctantly sold it almost the same day to fund something else. I should have NEVER sold that watch :( Now, sadly they are long since discontinued, and can no longer buy new (at least to my knowledge). |

Go with the GMT great white. It is the sharpest watch that Omega makes. Period!

got both of them and if I wanted a watch to wear diving, 2254. if I just wanted for wearing topside...2538.. or the 2234. the 2254 is the most comfortable to wear. hands down. gw |

I made this choice myself, kept the black dial and sold the white GMT, which I replaced with an Explorer II.

in my opinion, the 2254 is a cooler and more stylish piece.

2254.50
I'm partial since I own one, but I did want to get the great white. I just cant seem to get myself to like white dial watches on me. I wish I could because they are gorgeous, but I always seem to end up with black dials. I personally feel the black 2254.50 is more versatile.

I will always take a black dial over a white one... but the great white is certainly a stand out watch. Have you seen the new Vancouver Olympic White dial SMP?

I think the dial is the same shade of black waves, it just looks different in various lighting situations.

I like the 2254 50 and was offered one in UK from an AD for £1100, ($1560) how does that price compare stateside? Price includes VAT at 15%.

that equals at least the best price I know of from a reputable AD here in the U.S. I'd say it's about as good as you'll see new, gw |

I love both watches but I would have to go with the diver, 2254. I use the bezel daily and something would be missing if I didn't wear a diving watch with a timing bezel.

i'm a sucker for the 2254. i'm on my second one right now and was real close to selling yesterday. just couldn't do it.
although now i'm eying up that black bond co-axial that they rolled out. get the best of both worlds and then some. great black wave dial, bond style face with the co-ax movement. just can't pony it up right now. she's a beaut though. |
