Do the AD's know what they getting...?
I have a good relationship with 2 AD's, the one tells me that they get their full allocation schedule once a year and know what they are getting (except for a few "bonus items"). The other tells me they have no idea and can't predict what is coming or when it will come! What's the truth? Both have supplied me very well in the past.

The common answer i always hear and is consistent is they don’t know what they are getting until a few days before it arrives, they normally get a pre despatch note which details the references on.
Maybe some of the larger groups with the bigger buying power know a bit more for example Aurum group. |

I visited a couple AD's this past weekend and both stated that they have no idea what they will get.

Local dealer told me as well that they get what they get, no rhyme or reason.

The AD I spoke with Saturday said he gets a vague heads up on what to expect in the coming months.

My AD doesn’t know in advance either. They say they are on track for less than 50 SS sport models this year which is way way down from normal.

I had an AD (that I don’t use, but met at a fundraising event) that Rolex is changing things and he is now getting notified of which watches they shipped him. This was about 6 months ago. (He showed me what he was talking about from his phone)

The headquarters of the chain know exactly what they’re getting. In the US, examples would be Mayors or Tourneau. A common misconception on TRF is defining the subtle difference between a solitary AD location, on say a high street or in a mall and, the conglomerate that ultimately owns this tiny subsidiary AD that is maybe one of 10s, 100s or even 1000s of retail outlets owned by the headquarters/corporate. So, under this premise, does the tiny store (we call AD) know what their headquarters have decided to assign that store? The answer is usually “no”. Does “Rolex” deliver watches directly to these small retail AD which belong to a chain? The answer is also “no”. Does head-office, headquarters or, corporate know what they’re receiving for national distribution (to what we call ADs) as they see fit? “Yes”. There is mass confusion on TRF as to “Rolex” (the manufacturer) and their contractually Approved Distributors or Authorized Dealers around the world. Rolex is not the distributor or dealer. Rolex doesn’t deliver watches to your AD (unless its a very rare case of the AD being a single location owner/proprietor)

I heard before ADs could request the watches they wanted but sent the ones that Rolex wanted to ship. Essentially they have no idea.

So Rolex ships them random watches or a partial shipment based on a stock order from the AD?

AD's know what they have in the safe and what they're being allocated, anything else is a lie to avoid telling customers that they're never getting the watch they want. The only exception to this are special requests for top customers if the watch isn't already in stock (most are).

AD provide a list of what they want during Basel to Rolex, which will include the current new releases.
Over the course of the year, this stock will come in to the AD. With any item that is 'HOT' they do not know if they will get the quantity they requested. A few days before receiving the any shipment, they will have notification of what is on that shipment. This is the only time, they know of any confirmed stock arrival. Nothing ordered at Basel is guaranteed to be supplied to them by Rolex.

I was told that after Basel world they get allocated certain references/quantities for the entire year. As to when these are expected to arrive, they do not know.
