Building Trust

Hello all! I’m new to the forum and to luxury timepieces. I have a few timepieces that I’m trying to sell, but I know reputation and trust is extremely important on the forum. As an aspiring watch collector/ trader, what are some ways to help build that trust in the community? I’m trying to become more active on the forum, but is there anything else that I can do? Thanks in advance!

I would say start with a less expensive watch. Sell that on the forum, and if it goes well sell another. Then you will have a pattern of solid sales and can move to more eexpensive ones.

I’d consider working with the trusted sellers on TRF to sell your watches.

I can’t help you with the selling part but, I would like to welcome you to TRF.

Start by losing the villain mustache.

But seriously, trust takes time. Be patient, continue to post meaningful contributions, participate in discussions and establish your character.

Soon you’ll have a history that folks can evaluate and make their own determination of your legitimacy. In the beginning you will still probably need to accept PayPal or credit card for payment so that the buyer has recourse.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

If you're an active ebay seller, reference that feedback in any WTS listings here.

If you just want to offload a few pieces -- as opposed to building a rep as an amateur dealer -- contact Takuya

Because he can sell the same watch for much more than you can, it's plausible that you'll do better than if you sold on your own. from a risk and hassle standpoint you'll certainly do better. I would be hesitant to accept Paypal from strangers on TRF

Yep. Exactly this.

And then have them vouch for you.

I would only sell my watches to a Trusted Seller. I do not want to be on the short end of somebody scamming me in the various ways one can scam me. If it means taking less, then that is the risk premium.

Just be honest and upfront in your dealing. Describe the watches to a T, don't leave anything out or hide any flaws. People would rather be pleasantly surprised by an over description, than displeased with a under description. Be willing to talk to a potential buyer on the phone, that helps ease some tension with a newer seller. Remember everyone has to start somewhere. Good luck....

Yes, and accept returns. Price well below Trusted sellers. From your side don’t forget to checkout buyers.

I gladly would do business with long time active members on TRF.

^ This, plus share your linkedin profile with potential buyers and let them contact you through your work email. It helps establish professional identity which makes buyers feel more comfortable in some cases.
