5990 or 5712
Hey everyone,
I've been on the list for a 5712 and should get it before the end of the year, fingers crossed! My AD offered me a 5990 now. Should I wait on the 5172 or get the 5990?? Help! DC Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |

Well. 5712 if WILL arrive 100%. If not, 5990 is a very good deal, of course

5712 is more versatile, both sporty and dressy. 5990 is more of a pure sport watch. Wears very different from the 5712. If you want the 5712, the 5990 won’t do.

5990 and don’t look back. Besides the pusher it’s way more balanced IMO

If you are being offered a hot 5990 now then I think the 5712 is a safe bet so I'd wait for that one.

5712. As with the 5164, the 5990 is just too thick.

Assuming your AD is trustworthy you have the free option to decide between the two - congrats on that - and it sounds as if you haven't seen either in the metal?! On that basis my two cents are as follows...
1) I prefer the 5712 by a mile but only you can find out which one you prefer. I agree w the others that the 5712 and the 5990 are very different and accordingly tend to appeal to different people. The fact that you got on the wait list for the 5712 in the first place suggests that you'll prob still like that one better. 2) Just to be sure I'd try to see both pieces in the metal. If that's not possible near you a daytrip to NYC would be time and money well spent in my book. If that is too much of a hassle I would at least ask the AD to let you see whichever comes in first and decide on that basis. Having seen one is better than none when making the decision. |

Any 5990 owners have some wrist shot worth sharing? I am really curious how tall it wears

I thought this may help with comparing to how they were on my wrist to the 5522 and 5164. I actually sought out the 5990 because it is not so small. A 5711 on me I thought looked way to thin and dainty. Sorry it doesn’t show the thickness too well but until I get it back from service I don’t have any more pics

5990 or 5712
I’m sure the 5990 is thicker than the 5712 but I don’t find it to be “too thick” or “huge”. Here are some pics next to a Royal Oak and a GMT Rolex for comparison.

The proportions are so different that to me these are two diff watches . If it’s an either or, get which one you like better . Of course this is assuming you are certain the 5712 is within your reach. I own the 12, and it’s amazing.

I get many complements on 5990 - I thought it might be too thick b/c I wear my 5711 SS most often. But when I got the 5990,I found it to be great even though I have a small wrist. Then I got a 5711 R and love it but 5990 gets more wrist time- and I love the thin- ness of the 5711 ! Ha! :-))

Both great watches but 5712 wins for me. Mainly due to thickness and dial color. On complications level, the 5990 wins hands down, that travel time function is a winner. Movement-wise, the 5712 gets the edge with the micro rotor movement IMHO. Can't go wrong with either.
