First Rolex AD Issue

Hi All. I recently I purchased my first Rolex an Air King 116900 from an AD. It is a great watch and I love it. Here is my problem. The buying experience was very pleasant. The AD called about one week after i visited the store saying an Air King had arrived. I went that day tried it on etc and bought it. I asked that it be sent to my address up north and they said was no problem. The watch arrived today and the white hang tag is missing. It was present when I bought the watch. The watch is brand new and everything else is as should be. I emailed the AD but they have yet to respond.

I’m not sure how to handle this. I don’t want to make a big deal as I want a good relationship for purchasing future watches but this is my first Rolex it was expensive and I feel it should be complete. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

I have been buying a Rolex since 1994 and have never received the White tag.
I assure you all will be fine.
Watch will still function as designed.

Do you care more about the actual watch or the tags and booklets?

Ask them about it like you did, if they say it’s policy, then accept it

I’ve read about that happening before too

I wouldn’t mess up that nice relationship by throwing a fit over a white hang tag

Granted a missing tag is not the end of the world and it might be years before i open the empty box and look at them. However i could have bought used with out tags and saved money. The point was I bought into the whole AD experience as this was my first Rolex and it fell short. This was a watch that my son helped pick out as one day it will be his. If it was a policy i would understand but they made no mention. They did say it was policy to remove most stickers which i said no problem. I could understand keeping a tag on a high demand watch but an Air King is not in that category.

Explain to your AD why you'd like to have it. I know it's just a tag but some ADs keep them and then throw them out. I've bought 5 new SS Rolex in the last two years and they gave me everything, bezel protectors, coffins and all. I've asked my AD about this recently and I was told they never heard a word from Rolex to keep anything, hot piece or not. Store policy, maybe.. Who's going to buy and flip a new AK anyway.....

I highly doubt you would have saved money by buying a used stainless steel sports model in this market.

I understand your disappointment in not receiving that white hang tag. I bought my second Rolex at an AD in Pittsburg in June of this year. When it was being boxed up for me to take home I noticed the sales associate had that white hang tag off to the side. I asked her to place in the box for me. She then told me that they had to keep it for their own inventory control purposes. I accepted that and really didn't give it much thought after that.

If I hadn't had that exchange with her and got home and found that hang tag missing I know I would've been slightly disappointed that the tag was missing from my complete set.

I have a feeling that the dealer you bought your watch from may keep those white tags for their inventory control as well. If that's the case don't let that interfere with the enjoyment of your new Air-King.

Thanks Randy. I’m Beginning to understand that some AD hold the white tag. Guess I won’t worry about it anymore. Just wish they would have told me upfront or given me the courtesy of a reply to my email when I asked them about it. I am loving the new watch.

I wouldn't stress over it. My last Rolex purchase was from an AD and I got both tags etc but they wouldn't give me the bezel protector or the outer white sleeve for the box (Rolex??!!). The watch (Hulk) was what I wanted and paid for and received so at the end of the day I'm happy.

Many decades from now, when the OP is on his death bead, he finally hands over his precious Air King to his son, who looks at the watch, then at the box, shakes the said box,

For those of us who have been here for awhile, we wouldn't think twice about buying from a TS with possibly no documentation, much less worry about not having the white tag from an AD. That's us.

Let's show a little grace to a newbie who spent more money than he never imagined on a watch that he chose with his son and that he wants to leave to his son one day. OP, I hear you. Just call the AD and explain how this is your first Rolex which you will gift to your son and that its important for sentimental reasons to have the white tag. Welcome, friend.

OP, I prefer complete sets with new watches purchased.
Having said that, the white tag is really of little value to me.
The last new Rolex I purchased didn’t come with the white tag, and the previous one a year earlier from the same AD, had a white tag.
You have a complete set.
Suggest you do not need to worry about it and just enjoy the pleasure of your beautiful Air-King

If they have a computer, which they do, then that ^ is a lie. They can easily keep track of inventory without that tag. If they insist on keeping it they should at least give you the real reason. Most probably that the watch will be harder to flip if you do not have the complete set. I for one always refuse a watch that does not have the full set, unless there is something else ultra significant/desire able about it.

Dear OP. You were in a position to take the watch and everything with it. Why didn't you just do that? Get in touch with the AD and tell them to send the hang tag. If you don't get it, simply return the watch for a full refund on the basis that it is not complete. You can then buy the watch from someone who is happy to provide you with the full set.

The white hang tang is of zero value to me, unless the day comes when I decide to sell the watch. Then it is worth something.
