Couldn’t believe it.... local AD asked where I found my SS sky dweller

Was out at the mall today, and stopped by to see what the local AD had. Nothing special. Bunch of PM and TT pieces. They had a smurf and I asked to try it on. When I took off my SS sky Dweller the SA asked “wow that’s nice, where did you find one at.” Said they haven’t had one in a while. Maybe she was making small talk or trying to be nice but the way she said it took me off guard.

Has it come to this, AD’s asking where the SS models are at.... lol.

Probably were hoping you would say gray market, so they could lecture you on the fact its probably fake or a frankenwatch since you didn’t buy from an AD, yet they have no stainless for sale in the first place lol

Geez, according to many posters here, that and many more SS models are just a few feet away in the safe, awaiting either a VIP or Grey Dealer pick-up...

Maybe she was a good actress. Then again, maybe...

If you said grey market she would know you are willing to spend for the watch you want... if you said some other AD, she’d probably assume you have a strong relationship with that AD and may likely buy from them first...

All AD's I go to always ask where I get my Daytona or Sky Dweller at. I think it's their way of gauging if you're a flipper or if you buy to keep. In addition they also see if you buy from AD's or grey. I find this question from AD's to be normal practice.

I think it's a more delicate question to ask than if you live in the area locally and a way to pre-qualify the buyer.

I make up a story.... it goes like this:

“I went into XYZ dealer and it was in the display case, I couldn’t believe it”

If they are sitting on a war chest in the back safe, it makes them wonder if the competitors are selling pieces while they are sitting on inventory.
