four and a half years ago, i was in vienna with my aging stepfather on what would turn out to be his final trip abroad. he had been diagnosed with parkinson’s and as it progressed he was unable to make any more extended journeys.

while in vienna i tried on and fell in love with a 116710blnr; a watch i already fancied but had not seen in the metal. it was to be my first rolex. steve had been in the shop with me, and as i turned to offer my card to the woman to pay, she shook her head and indicated that my wonderful stepfather had already sorted it.

this morning i put the batman on, just before i received the news that he had succumbed to pneumonia and had passed away aged 87.

he was a most remarkable man and i am most fortunate to have had him in my life. more my father than my own. glad to wear this batman today and even more glad to honor his memory shortly with a watch - an idea he was amused by but kind of found wonderful.

What a beautiful story! Glad you were able to spend so much quality time with him. Every time you look down at that watch, just remember the type of man that he was. That should bring a smile to your face every single time!
