Helping each other. UK / US....

Sitting here thinking and wondering if there is a safe way to make this work and help each other out over the pond?

I have been offered a Tudor Harrods which I can go and collect and help out a US collector at cost who may not be able to source one easily?

I would then ask that collector to help find me a BLNR or sub date in the US at their AD and help me with shipping etc as impossible to source here in London.

This avoids the grey dealers markup but does involve a level of trust on both sides.

Thoughts?

That would be a kind and thoughtful gesture. I hope you can find someone looking for that reference. Quite a bit of trust involved and I’m not sure you can avoid import duties, but best of luck!

I’m not sure someone would help source you a brand new BLNR (on the back of a Harrods Black Bay), but I do take your point.

However the big issue is VAT.

Factor in import duties plus 20% VAT when the watch arrives in the UK. I’ve done the sums many ways and it’s almost always more expensive. Best to stick to the UK

Does a Tudor Harrods really generate much interest in the USA? Harrods is a department store, right?

Yeh it’s iconic and famous all over the world. I certainly see many people in different countries posting about it, joining the list and trying to time being in London to collect.

Is Harrod’s similar to Bergdorf?

I suppose so if that is the premier dept store over there, Harrods has/had Royal seals and all that aristocratic jazz so it is a famous tourist attraction as well, only Selfridges competes with it on the international stage.

Unless I am missing something, there is also the payment issue with no trusted seller history. Nice thought, but ripe for scams.

Hasnt held a Royal Warrant since 2000. After the Duke of Edinburgh withdrew his Alfayed is purported to have taken down the remainder and burnt them.

It's almost as bizarre as trying to understand why a mass market silver purveyor is able to put their stamp on watches and triple its value

Royal what? Seal? Is that like bathroom sealer as used by Royalty? It can't be much good because it all got taken down.

Does Harrod print their name on watches like Tiffany does?

Probably the only practical way for this to work is if a TRF member is traveling to London and an in person meeting could be arranged.

This would take a lot of trust from both parties. I suppose its possible if in person relationships are developed at g2gs

I am thinking we may see a reversal of the situation in 2016 for the UK.

STG is now on an upward trend and being forecast to reach pre Brexit levels.

UK will become relatively expensive on a global scale (and you can bet Rolex won't reduce UK prices).

It will be back to the old days. UK buyers going abroad.

Yes, but that hardly matters now, the Fayeds are long gone, the Royals are still ruling all and Charles has made the monarchy more secure than it has ever been in dealing with his brother so swiftly.

Nice gesture but the potential for burnt fingers is immense.

It's funny that I live roughly a three hour drive from Bergdorf in NYC and have never once heard of it until today. Harrod's I've known about since I was a child.

I don't mean anything by this other than pointing out the humor, to me, that what's nearby goes unknown but I'm aware of a store that requires use of a passport for me to visit.

Queen is like Rolex admired but slow to act, esp on modern matters, like with Diana's death, so Charles gauging the mood of the nation and acting has meant his succession is now secure, no calls for Wills to jump ahead of him now.

This was such a mess that frankly, he was toast.

I'm waiting on that getting much worse, before it gets better.
