Patek 5167a vs YG Sub vs VC Overseas

Considering adding one of the following.

1. YG Sub, would be getting one more for my dad as well. Would be waiting until after Basel to make sure a new Sub isn't introduced. Already own a Smurf!

2. Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500 (Blue) - Have been going back and forth on this one for a bit. Only thing stopping me is the size (41mm) and thickness of the watch. Love the strap changing system.

3. Really can't stop looking at the exclusive 5167a Red. Doesn't seem like that will be a possibility for me as it's super limited (500 pieces). I could however get the classic 5167a and add a Khaki strap. I have yet to own a Patek. Love the 5711 but refuse to overpay 3x.

For reference, a pic of my current state of collection.

Patek 5167a vs YG Sub vs VC Overseas

I love Patek through and through but the 5167 is a really unspectacular watch. I wouldn’t buy it unless you want to flip. Of the choices I’d get the VC Overseas blue dial or a Royal Oak 15400 or 15500. For your collection I wouldn’t get another Rolex under any condition, big Rolex collections are boring.

Why is the 5167 "unspectacular" to you. I love how low key it is, love the thinness, and love the khaki strap.

I think the Aquanaut is uninspiring and just doesn’t speak to me. It lacks the savoir faire found in other Pateks.

OP, I propose the 5167a for the reasons you just listed. It's also very comfortable on the wrist, and it looks different to the other watches you have in your collection.

I for one love my 5167 and think it is a great, albeit stealthy watch. If you want a watch that wows people it may not be for you. If you want a high horology piece that flies under the radar, then the aquanaut is the watch.

I agree with this 1000%

What about a 5164? If you want the 67 - I’d go for the 67R. That’s just me.

The 67 never did anything for me — it is straight up an entry level Patek - regardless of the hype and the premiums. I can remember the days when my AD couldn’t give one away. If you’re willing to pay the ‘premiums’ and want a Patek id be looking at the 5130 or maybe 5396.

Agreed, however this is also why I really like the VC overseas. Under the radar, high horology, rubber option, strap change system.

Understandable. No consideration for the 64? What about something with a complication and a strap? 5030? 5396?

If shipped these can be found around the inflated prices of the 67s. And way more worth it IMHO.

You have good taste and I don’t think you can go wrong with the 5167 or the Overseas. I would add these before adding another Rolex to your already Rolex-heavy collection.

5164 as I said on the other thread, blue strap option on this, not on 67.

I second the overseas.

If you’re set on Aquanaut then 5164.

I love that. I have not tried on a 5167 but love the size and how thin they are. Also prefer the 5711 over the 5989 due to thickness.

I do like the orange 5164. But my ultimate fav is the red 5167. Haven’t even seen one listed for sale though.

I’m a Rolex guy. In the least cheesy way possible, if that’s possible.

My favorite overseas is the classic 3 hand. Loved the ultra thing no date but don’t love that dial.

I would go with the 5167 if in your shoes. To me, its the perfect daily watch in a large collection like yours. It hasn't left my wrist since I got it.

It will also be the easier of the 3 to get out of if you decide its not for you.

Do try the VCO on your wrist. I'm also 6.5" and it wears too large for me lug to lug. It is very similar to the AP15400 in terms of wrist wear.

I’ve tried it on a week ago but tough to tell as it wasn’t sized

The 5167 was a great $17k watch, but at recent prices, the VC and YG Sub have way more value. I am a big YG 40-41mm Rolex fan. I did not have my 5167 very long, I just could not get used to how light it was. Plus the values were blowing out and I could not reconcile keeping it.

I mean low key pretty much means unspectacular. No one's ever described something as spectacularly low-key

I like low key, but I don't like unspectacular. Something can be low key and still spectacular. I can think of a few watches. Smurf. 5270p. Anything that is under the radar really.

This is the only reason I hesitate getting into PP now.

Looking fwd to seeing what will come this year for both PP and Rolex.

OP, I have some thoughts...

I see what you’re doing. We’ve all been there, man. You’re a “Rolex Guy” and you’ve been faithful. But, a man needs variety. You want some strange. I getcha... Right now... anything new or different looks good. 5s become 9.9s in this universe. Fortunes have been lost in this universe. You’re recklessly and cavalierly swerving into this lane. Don’t worry, I got your back. But.. No, no. I’m not going to talk you out of “cheating”. On the other hand, if you’re going to cheat. I want you cheating UP! I want you out kicking your coverage. I want the rolex pieces you have to weep at night in the box and hate you but in the end, at night when the demons come... they understand why you did it.

Ahem... now, the PP 5167a... she’s a 5, bruh. I’m jus sayin. Entry. Level.

If you’re stepping out, step UP. I want you WAY UP! 5711R. Either 5168. Full gold RO.

One last thing... Lie til you die.

Thanks for reading. Totally lost interest in Seattle v GB. Figured we could have a little fun here.

Its a game again!!

5711R is nice but I'd go for the 5711 in stainless. I prefer the stainless dials.

Are you convincing me to go for a RM 35-02 Red really?

True, game is tightening up.

And yes! Think about it... when you wake up the next morning, it had better have been worth it. RM is worth it.

Btw, no disrespect to the 5167a. That’s my speed.
