OP39 + Cash for a DJ41
So I just acquired a DJ41 that i like alot. My best friend has a OP39 with a black dial. He really wants to upgrade but cant justify having both watches. So he is thinking of selling his OP39 and adding cash for a black dialed DJ41 with a jubilee bracelet and white gold bezel.
Is this worth the hassle in your opinion? |

I love my white gold fluted bezel and jubilee DJ41, these make the watch pop.
Depends on how much cash is involved in upgrading. |

From my experience, once you start going through the mental hoops of calculating flip price/cash, you’re well on your way to making the change.
That being said, going from OP to fluted DJ on jubilee is quite the change. I would also consider smooth bezel on jubilee. |

I prefer the DJ to the OP but the devil is in the details. Get the best deal possible and move on. That has always been how I do it.

I would only do that for a DJ36. Classic size and perfect proportions.
Something about the DJ41 just looks off to me. |

I looked at a deal, with a grey, where I would sell him my OP 34 plus some cash for a DJ 36. After sleeping on it I decided it just wasn't a good deal, for me. YMMV

It all depends on what one wants. No doubt that a DJ41 with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet is an upgrade. No one is going to trade straight across so it's the only way to get there other than owning both. Trade away if that's where one's heart lies!!!

Datejust is superior to me, especially the 41. They really fixed it going from the DJII to the DJ41, it's perfect now.
The OP's are great watches, but I like a date on my watch. He could also consider the smooth bezel. It would be less cash on top of his OP39. Edit: One thing to note is the different case/bracelet finish on the OP, which lends to a more tool focused, less flashy watch. I actually prefer this finish to the polished lugs/center links of the DJ41. |

I have been thinking about this too. I have the OP39 Rhodium and have been tinkering the idea to move up to a DJ2 41 or the DJ41 Black stick. Any idea what the difference in cash would be or should be? Brand new here guys and gals, hello to you all!

Check for second hand pricing of the two and pay accordingly.

I couldn’t disagree more. DJII is IMO the most unattractive watch ever made by Rolex. Two friends had it and I couldn’t stand it. One had his stolen and got a 41 replacement. Leaguessss better. The 36 is the perfect size aesthetically. Unfortunately, too small for me. So, 41 all the way. OP - depending on how much cash, I would 100% make that move. Exp1>DJ>OP. |

I would. Especially with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.

To me, the DJ41 proportions don’t fit that style watch. A DJ in my opinion, should be 36mm. Now, the OP39 looks, and wears for what it’s intended to be. A sport watch. I’ll keep the OP39. Go and try on a 36mm DJ, and a 41mm DJ. You will see what I’m talking about.

I basically made that exact trade. Except the OP39 was a 39mm Explorer 1 - regardless, practically identical proportions.
I ended up wearing the DJ41 (in my profile pic) for ~3 months before i sold it for a DJ36 LOL. I would personally only recommend DJ41 for people with large wrists. I have a 6.8 inch wrist and the DJ41 was much too large to wear comfortably. I would keep the OP39 for sure. |

I’d do it too. The DJ41 is perfectly sized now and would be a nice change if your friend wants the date. Not taking anything away from the OP or the 36mm DJ but I imagine the size is closer to what he’s wearing now with the 41 and he gains a couple nice features.

Hassle? Tell me about it. Sometimes you have to make the move. I've made many.. Id do that move without a second thought.. Personally I prefer the smooth/oyster but their all good.

People tend to speak in absolutes on this forum, when in reality, it really depends on the person, their wrist size, and their general style.
Just because one person prefers the DJ36 doesn't mean everyone should. There's a reason Rolex offers so many sizes and options. Op, I'd do that trade because the OP39 and DJ41 wear extremely similar in size (so close that I'd say any difference was insignificant). If he wants just an upgrade to his OP39, then the DJ41 is a perfect candidate. |
