Pushers out! Timing a new way - Daytona!

For many years, I’ve relied on the rotating bezel on Submariner and GMT watches as my timer, diving, cooking, reminders and appointments. The smartphone calendar is nice, but for impromptu things I use the watch to remind myself.

I never owned a Daytona until last week. I just did not “get it”. And I thought I “needed” a date function. Countless trades on Rolex sport models, but never a Daytona. I found one I really loved and took the plunge. Boom , I’m a believer.

The sub dials are very easy to read and I am impressed (even with aging eyes).

Beauty, history, Brand and functionality; it’s just a darn good way to keep time.

I always appreciate the insight, photos and fun posts from the community.

Just sharing my “conversion” to Daytona timing. I’ve got a new way to track it (above the waves).

Those sub dials are easy to read huh, even for your aging eyes? First time I've heard that one. They must have changed the dials!

Yeah, I would not claim they work with all aging eyes, but the black subdials and silver hands contrast well, for me. We are all in different places. I’m 51. Eyes started going 7 years back. Wear 1.5 glasses for seeing far away, and 1.5 readers up close. But, for now, at natural length, the sub dials are crisp. I guess when I can’t use it anymore the boy will get it. I put his name on the card. Give me 10 more years and we shall see how I see...

The full panda subdials really make a difference (to my eyes) over the outlined only dials.

Beautiful. The daytona does offer something that just can't be grasped by any other watch. Enjoy!!

I have the 16710, and I'm actually curious how you used the bezel on reminders and appointments.

Great watch! Have fun with it.

If I need to do something at an appointed time, I just set the bezel. For example, if I’m supposed to pick up my son at 6:30 after practice, I just set the triangle on the GMT at 6:30, and it helps me remember when I need to be there. Or, if I plan to meet for lunch, impromptu, I might set the triangle on the lunch meeting time, just to remind me when I need to arrive.

It does not tell me “what”, but it helps me remember “when” for impromptu things. Just a nudge for the memory.

I do the same thing with my GMTs and Subs. I also got a Daytona last week, and agree, it’s a nice change for timing. I recently used it to time steaks on the grill and it was perfect. Enjoy

Congrats, Grant. An excellent choice of model from the options.

One of my favorite versions. Drawn it to increasingly. Sadly where I am even getting a PM Daytona readily is a PITA.

Congrats Grant on an Awesome Daytona!

The lack of date is one of the best features imo actually. Can't beat a 72 hour power reserve that you can pick up, wind, set the time quickly and put on the wrist

That must be it! I can really see this one. I’ve had AP chronos where the dial was the same color. That is harder to see.

Thank you! I’m starting to consider how much I really “need” a date.
