Grandfathers 18238 (E Serial)
Hey Everyone! I’ve been lurking on this forum almost daily for a few years now and have only posted a few times. I have a question about my grandfathers 18238 and I figured this is the place to ask.
He purchased it from a pawn shop. I know it has a Myriad dial, but I haven’t been able to find out much about this combination on the forum or online. Can anyone shed some light? Is the bezel original?DSC_9845.jpg DSC_9855.jpg DSC_9856.jpg DSC_9857.jpg DSC_9858.jpg |

The diamond bezel on the outside is most likely aftermarket and may have been added to give the watch more diamonds. Normally, the watch would have the standard fluted bezel from the factory. Also, the bracelet is 3 links short.

Need better pics of the diamond setting of the bezel. Please also count the diamonds. The bezel Must have been added as per the watches reference number but could be an original addition.

David, I count 41 stones ... If so, it’s aftermarket, yes?

Thank you! Any way to identify the proper fluted bezel that it came with? |

Yes aftermarket there is a model 18348 with diamond bezel /dial (crowncollection) from the factory. Imi hate to tell you but the dial is not original to the watch it was only available for white gold and platinum models note the white gold setting and coronet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you so much for all of the info! I had a feeling that dial didn’t belong to the watch. As it sits, what would you estimate it at? Wholesale/retail |

Grandfathers 18238 (E Serial)
I am pretty sure estimated value discussions aren’t allowed on this forum.
I wouldn’t sell his watch, you have a really cool project sitting there. Here are a list of things that hurt the watch, but they can be fixed. You would end up with a really cool, classic watch for much less then you could buy one. I am sure it’s a bummer to find out it’s not what you thought it was but it isn’t a lost cause. The parts are Very common because so many people bling them out like that one. 1. The case is polished, I don’t know if it was intentional or over time but it hurts the value. It can be repaired though by LAWW, they could make it look much better. 2. Bezel (obviously) swap a nice crisp original on it and sell the bling bling as long as the diamonds are real. That would help fund the restore. 3. Dial, if it’s original you can sell it too? I am not digging that color with the yellow. If that dial is original it may pay for the restore? You have your pick of a rainbow of original non diamond studded originals. Keep in mind there are LOTS of refinished dials on EBay and they don’t Always say they are refinished. That watch with a crisp bezel, professionally polished with a normal dial would be cool and worth more. Don’t go drop a ton of money in it if you still intend on selling it, I just mean it’s worth more in original form. Here is my fathers Datejust, it was in similar shape as yours. Now it looks much better with a little love. Case was polished, wrong dial/bezel. |
