Rolex Pepsi GMT or Tag Heuer Calibre 7 Pepsi GMT

Well guys and gals, this conversation may be a little controversial and I know that a Rolex is a Rolex and a beautiful piece it is indeed in the Pepsi GMT version.

But over the weekend Saturday in fact I was at my Rolex ad and decided to have a look at the Tag Heuer case while I was in that case I stumbled upon Calibre 7 Pepsi GMT in the Aquaracer line. For me it just popped and obviously the Pepsi dial was the big factor even better in an aluminum Pepsi red blue combination. I mean I get it it's not a Rolex but out here in Canada is a 2-3 year old weight and frankly speaking with my heart condition and as in creeping up in age some days I wonder do I even have two to three years to wait for a watch LOL.

Well I decided to post a couple of pictures and hope you all enjoy the I think I was going to also ask how what I ever find out if my watch is equipped with an ETA or a sellita movement there's a question you'll never have to ask when you buy a Rolex. Hope everyone is well and staying healthy and safe Godspeed Toronto Canada.

Good find. TBH not a fan of TAG but overall they work okay and look good on larger wrists.

16710 my first choice

Although the 16710 was my first choice for thought of paying $15,000 Canadian for one was just silly proposition and frankly the watch and truthfully not worth that kind of money especially with the current economic situation were faced with with covid-19 and not really improving we might be faced with three more years of this some economists are saying so I decided and Frankly Speaking the Tag Heuer is a lot for the money including an aluminum anything I find a little silly is that they don't tell you which movement I guess after it's versus service Elmo which movements in it by that time I'll have the covid-19 vaccine and everything LOL

When I was at an AD to pick my first luxury watch, the SA there put the Cartier I was interested in but also added a Sub in the tray as it was of the same price range “year 2000”
I picked the Cartier while he was advising me to pick the Sub.
Well, I now know how imbecile I was :-)
It’s not because it’s Rolex but the difference is day and night design wise.
If I were to pick one without knowing anything about watches I would pick the Rolex.
Now give me a lesson in the history of watchmaking and that of the gmt and I’ll be so glad I picked the Rolex.

By all means, I say go for it. TAG has knocked it out of the park with their latest GMTs and Aquaracers. Their fit and finish are phenomenal, and they’re built like tanks. I am in awe at the quality of their current lineup, especially given the price point. I ended up getting the blue 41mm Aquaracer a few months ago and am regularly struck by the beautiful blue dial (inspired by the wooden deck of a ship, similar to the OMEGA Aqua Terra) and the blue ceramic bezel. Whoever is doing design work at TAG needs a pay raise.

One thing is for sure, TAG’s GMT knocks the Tudor Black Bay GMT out cold, given the Tudor’s chunkier case and its date issues. People needlessly rag on Selitta and ETA movements, but they’re elegant Swiss workhorses that “just work” and get the job done.

A friend of mine has one. It actually looks even better in person. Whatever the movement is, it’s a known, proven Swiss made automatic movement. Enjoy in good health. Take a trip and use that GMT function.

Not a bad look piece! But shouldn’t this go on ‘other’ forum? Not really a Rolex

Nice piece, congrats

Never understood the disdain for TH expressed by some - I've owned a few and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I think it’s because of they tried to capitalize (with some models) on an over-glorified watch which other manufacturers put out for 25% of their price. They definitely have some good pieces though and a decent pedigree, it’s nonsensical to group the entire brand as bad!

I own an aqua racer. While I find it a nice watch it’s very uncomfortable. Not expecting it too stick around anymore. I’ve tried to size it every way possible it just is uncomfortable. My collection is predominantly Rolex and maybe it’s just the difference in quality I don’t know but I have seikos that are very comfortable.

It also makes the loudest most horrible whirring noise (normally not a techinical problem). If you sleep with on, and your arm is under your pillow it’s unbearable.

So as nice as they look in my opinion, some things to consider - just my opinion.

I have that watch. I love it for it's Brutalist design (it's as if they couldn't stop designing it) and it's a good partner for my Arabic Carrera 16 Day Date. The mix of big green and blue lumes looks good too in low light.

But it doesn't get worn much. It's heavy and it digs in. The dial is too busy with its horizontal hatching sometimes making the GMT hand disappear, and the date cyclops isn't very good. If the date was black text on a white background it would be more legible.

My plan is to PX it grey for a Monaco Calibre 11, maybe next year. It looks fantastic sitting in the winder and imposing on the wrist. But for all day comfort any other watch in my collection is better. When I wear the Tag all day I need to take it off. If I've been wearing a Rolex all day, even a Sky Dweller, I've usually forgotten I was wearing it.

I also have a big Ball GMT (I have a thing for GMTs). If looks and feels like it weighs 1Kg. It's big and it's heavy. But it wears comfortably all day.

Good looking watch.
TAG will always have a special place in my love for this hobby. In my early years of collecting I was thoroughly obsessed with the brand.

Great post. I’ve had a 16710 and loved it among many others. Unfortunately my love of other watches and circumstances meant it had to go.

I do miss it, but I have omega, Tudor and others now. No Rolex currently.

That’s not to say i don’t like them, far from it. But I can’t be arsed to play the games and I prefer to have a number of watches for variety than have all my cash tied up in one or two purchased on the grey market.

I’d love a hot model, but I get a lot of pleasure from what I have now and that’s what matters (albeit I keep eyeing up a Kermit again).

My first nice watch was also a tag F1 and I then moved onto a carrera gmt. Terrific watches, and I’m thinking about a Monaco also if the price is right.

Very nice watch. I started with Tag Heuers back in the 90's. I gave my first nice watch a Tag 1500 to my brother over 10 years ago and he still has it. I have a Omega Planet Ocean and a Rolex Deep Sea Dweller. The new Tag watches have my attention. I am waiting for the new Tag Carrera to show up. Below is my current collection of Tags

Very nice watch. Good pickup. I like Tag Heuer. I have one, and it is in my rotation. My son just bought a green Aquaracer. Beautiful watch.

+1! Definitely agree. My first real "nice" watch was also a Tag and still have the 2000 series tucked away in my watch case.

My first decent watch was a Tag Heuer 2000 also. I won it. Up to that point I couldn't see what all the fuss was about with watches that you couldn't wear until the battery died and throw away. The first time I put my Tag on was the last time I thought like that.

My wife rocks it now and it looks as good as the day I got it.

I understand they get some stick. I don't care. I really like their designs. They do a rather nice green one now. Their price points appear to be creeping up through.

I had a Pepsi Tag and wore it once literally. A little to big and not comfortable for me. The lume was also not very good compared to Rolex. Other than that it was a nice looking watch and the price is right.

Congrats! That is a nice GMT. I dig the Aquaracer range, so much so that I got myself an Aquaracer on bracelet with the deck dial and steel bezel. I love it! Feels unique next to my Rolexes. I don't wear my watches to flaunt, but my Aquaracer is the only watch that received comments in the wild.

I like the old Yves Piaget 'arrows' logo - reminds me of my F1 from the early 90s
Shame they changed it a few years ago to the 'wide' design.

Congrats on the TH, wear it in the best of health.

It really isn't even in the same stratosphere as the Rolex GMT though so it's not all that controversial.
