Explorer or Sub - Which way to go
Hey team
I am in one of those first world problem situations where I cannot settle on a purchase decision. Looking at Explorer 214270 vs Date or No-Date Sub (i.e 114060). Both stunning in their own way. Unfortunately at this point I am unable to try on either watch. My lifestyle is pretty simple, I don't dress up frequently and looking at each piece either one fits 'everyday wear'... this is a long term commitment (unless I absolutely don't fall in love with it). Wrist size: 7.25 Current stash: 16570 (which will be replaced by new purchased model) Down the road I might own both but at this time I only want to go with one. Anyone owns/ed both that can give advice? Thanks |

Sub no date 100x. It’s so much easier to pick it up and set it.

Sub ND... my current daily beater. Goes with everything, plus it works great on NATO or rubber strap too.

Both are truly awesome. I have both and love them. If pressed to chose or if it was my first Rolex or if my one and only, I'd pick a Sub undoubtedly. Good luck and enjoy

I love the cerachrom... I think that is the main decision for you. If you have had a 16570 for some time, how do you feel about the scuffs and scratches on the brushed bezel? If you are neutral or like to see marks, then the 214270, if you don’t like to worry about bezel wear, then the 114060 (or 116610) may be for you. |

Versatile dress down / casual or wear with a suit watch - Explorer. Get it now because if they replace it with a new model next year it will be a bugger to get hold of.

Sorry, and i'd go with a Sub-Date. its nice to have the piece give you that extra info. However, the ND aka Sub its the purist choice. You cant go wrong with any of them

100000000000000x the sub. You will enjoy looking at that beautiful black bezel everyday.

if its your only watch then get a sub date. If you want to build a collection down the line, then get the Sub no-date its easier to set as your collection grows.

I have both, and would go Submariner 114060 without a doubt. I had the same dilemma a few years ago and have never had any regrets. Now after owning both I can say the Explorer is a great piece, but it just doesn't give me the same feeling the Sub does when I wear it.
I have bought and sold close to 10 watches in the past 2-3 years and the 114060 is the ONLY piece I would never consider trading. I've always felt that if I had to sell my whole collection and keep only one, this would be it. |

I have both. My first Rolex was my sub
But for pure versatility I prefer my Explorer. The Explorer would be my keeper of the two

I had this dilemma for years and went back and forth. After collecting hundreds of photos and watching dozens of reviews and seeing both watches in person, final decision is to get both hahaha...it's the TRF answer.
But if forced by torture to pick one, then it would be the Submariner 11 or 12 series... |

I completely agree with this. There are so many great date options, it will make it easier to add the second watch later on. Want I did with the datejust, which is a great complement to the submariner.

Both are excellent choices. Since you will be letting go the 16570 I guess the two time zone feature isn't a factor. The Submariner or No Date Sub as it is incorrectly referred to, is really nice without the date and cyclops. I am sure you will like the 114060 and for me, the new release 124060 Submariner is my favorite.

Whichever you can get is the real answer.
But of the two, concur with the sentiment the Sub ND is versatile, looks good and easy to set and go. It’s the quintessential Rolex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wow I did not expect this many replies so quick, thank you everyone for chiming in I really appreciate it.
ND Sub seems to be the answer by a landslide, this is the one I was gearing towards little more. Now hopefully I can find something within decent price. |

114060. It's the last watch I would ever sell. I don't honestly think you can do better for that money.

If you’re going to sell of the 16570, I’d get a date complication. But that’s just me. I tried going without date, and didn’t realize how often I subconsciously look at my watch to see the date. I also try to limit my interactions with my phone, so that could be why I prefer to have the date on my watch.
As it is, my daily wearer, that I don’t plan on getting rid of, is a 216570, and I’m hoping to acquire a 14060M or a 124060. |

I vote for Sub. The lugs ran long on the Explorer for me and I think a lot of it had to do with the bezel.

For me, I would settle for the explorer 1. So simple and understated elegance.

I went with the Explorer as my first and only Rolex because I don't dive, but I do climb mountains - so it sang to me.

They are both awesome. The sub is what most people think of when they think Rolex. The Explorer 1 is awesome for its simplicity. Think about those 2 ends of the spectrum and what appeals to you more.

Explorer would be a very easy choice for me.
