DD40 / PM prices went up too?

Friends,

My wife likes DD40 motif dial a lot, and has been suggesting that at some point she likes to get one. Needless to say, i have been kind of monitoring the prices behind the scenes. In the last few months, I haven't been on TRF much due to work etc., and now that I am participating more, I did a search on the PM pieces here and there and see their prices from the TS folks are a lot higher than I remember.

What happened? didn't PM pieces use to go at TS for a considerable (15-20%) discount before?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at things as an owner), prices have steadily increased on the grey side for all Rolex models it seems.

Just the market rate these days...

Yes, unfortunate for me - not on the boat yet - and fortunate for those sipping champagne and waving with their DD40 hand at me.

DD40s all went up in prices. Pretty much all of them are selling at grays for MSRP or over now.

As above the price I paid for mine compared to now is about is at least $10k+ for YG and like $13k+ for the RG.

Congrats on your equity boost. It's really a phenomenal dial-material combination. I think the discontinuation of the Hulk had a little bit to do with it.

IIRC, the current lineup of sunburst green dials (at least 36mm, sans diamonds) is now just YG Daytona, WG, RG, and PT DD40. Quick search on Chrono24 shows just four green-dial 36mm DDs (which is discontinued) available, and they are commanding remarkable premiums compared to their non-green counterparts.

It will be interesting to see in the coming years if Rolex puts out a yellow gold DD40 with same-shade green dial as the Daytona.

Hmm .. Not so sure actually .. Could be the case considering the olive dial rose gold model, however this piece is unsold for months now in Spain as well the one in Switzerland, all bellow the MSRP .. This is the yellow gold though .. Could be a less popular option, but still ..

https://www.chrono24.de/rolex/rolex-...id16314244.htm

I remember calling the store in Italy a month ago and they had some champagne dial YG ready to be sold for a thousand eur bellow the MSRP ..

Could be the things have changed in the last weeks, but I believe you are still able to get at least 5% off an YG DD40 at your local AD if you ask them ..

Remember asking prices are not always what they are selling for especially PM watches.

Thanks for all the responses. Seems like I need to pay to play, that is all good. Might just sit at the sidelines and watch the game for a while. ( but that would mean they will get just slip further and further out of reach. )

Remember two years ago at Fourtane at Monterey I told the sales person that I will be looking at PM pieces in a couple of years and he said “don’t wait, they will only go up in prices” I smiled and said I know, just not at that point yet. I should have listened to him.

For those who are still reading and like to share some thoughts, if I were to look at the older 36 mm ones, which references would be preferred? 18238 or 118238 or ... obviously the newer the better but if you have any thoughts that you like to share (benefits if one over the other or what not), would love to hear your thoughts.

Dont settle my man. I've seen numerous threads in the past on TRF about buying a 36mm because the 40mm was out of reach.

The best and only solution to this is just hold off another 6 months or so until the $$ is right. Then just buy the 40mm.

If you get the 36mm and your heart is on the 40mm you will eventually trade the 36mm anyway and waste more money and time in doing it. Just get the 40mm from day one.

Many DD40s.. even yellow gold.. are selling for above retail from our TS, so I would be surprised if an AD is discounting these . Maybe 5% if you are a long time customer w large spend.

the vintage ones went up a lot too. 18238s go for like 16k right now and they were 12-13 earlier this year, they're basically in what used to be 118238 territory now. depends on your budget though
