Cape cod on a watch?

Wore my watch for the first time, and already got a scratch. Not sure how I even got it! Has anyone had success with taking out scratches using cape cod? Or should I leave it alone? It’s only visible in direct lighting

Yea I’d rather wait until service years down the road. I guess the first scratch just hurts the most!

Cape cod probably won’t move that.

All cape cod does is introduce lots of micro scratches that are hard to see but they will be there.

They do restore some sort of mirror finish but quite honestly, it really isn’t worth it.

Oh wow I wouldn’t want that. Would this be considered a deep scratch? I can’t feel the scratch and is only visible like in the picture only in certain angles

Trust me, quit while you’re ahead. Simply wait until service for any polishing. The clasp will gain further micro scratches especially on that high polish portion. That looks like it had a brush against a hard surface such as a table or countertop, etc. You’ll have more success in the long run by practicing wrist awareness moving forward.

This is a PCL clasp. You will get many more of these soon. It’s just the first one that hurts the most - don’t touch it

Jesus christ... Stop being such a baby and embrace the first scratch lol. If you plan on wearing the watch, even delicately, it will scratch. Think of them like scars and enjoy the watch without any worries.

Wear it more to add to that scratch and they will all blend together. Ten years send it to RSC and get back a new looking watch. Rinse and repeat.

I'd wait a bit but those particular marks are in a good spot to painlessly remove. If they still bother you in a few years and have not blended in with other accumulated swirlies they are easy to isolate with tape and preserve the surrounding sharp edges.

Been through this many times. Leave it alone. There’s more on the way. Last I tried this was on the clasp of my new DJ41. Case Cod cloth just made it a little worse by adding microscratches

I've scratched my watches so much it is basically like having it brushed. Leave it alone and wear it.

I would leave it alone. If you don't want scratches then don't wear it. Your watch will get scratched every time you touch it.

I would leave it alone, I've plenty of scratches on my polished bezel. They will blend in and nobody but you will notice anyways.

PCL... clean up one scratch to make room for the next. It is on clasp and there will be many more! Wear it and know that it can be cleaned up at service time.

I know my response is pointless as it doesn’t answer the Q. However the watch looks brilliant with or without scratches and eventually you will just accept them and move on! I know from experience.

As expected you receive all kind of replies and tips. Just in case you don't like any sratches, the key is "wrist awareness" (quoted already above) and a kind of "movement control".
Others don't care at all, finally it's up to you. I would not try to polish this scratch now.

Never use CapeCod on SS PCLs! I only use it with polished gold links and clasps; that works very good!

Thanks for the feedback! I will just wait until it needs to be serviced. I’m sure by then they’ll be plenty more scratches to go a long with it

Actually cape cod does well on polished surfaces of steel watches. I’ve used it to keep some of my daily wearers fresh. They look great. But I’m not going to get into it with everyone. To each their own. Those scratches little deep though. Doubt it would help. Where it is I wouldn’t personally worry about it.
