Try our luck or on waiting list?

Funny story. Was in the AD and put my name down for the Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue on last Thursday, 3rd December. 6 months waiting list, told by the gentleman.

When passing by their shop at 9:50am this morning (they open at 10am) surprisingly saw the watch is at the window. Call in immediately and confirmed it is for sale, they received the watch yesterday, the lady said.

Is there any reason why the AD prefer to put the watch at the window for the lucky buyer rather than call to the customer who are already on their waiting list?

Never understand how’s the game work...

Lack of communication or something along those lines perhaps?

LOL

So did you walk in and buy it? And also mention that you've been on their imaginary list for 6 months?

Agreed. Half of the battle navigating these waiting lists is being top of mind for your SA when the watches come in.

Only way to find out is to get in touch with the contact who put you on the ‘list’

I figure if you spend a shedload of cash on trinkets, the game would be much easier to understand

I think the communication between me and him are pretty clear. I tell him what I want, and he put my request on their system instead a piece of paper. I saw and read every word that he type in. Approx 6 months wait, he said at the end.

Maybe it just because I don’t have any purchase history with them?

Such is the list game. I consistently find watches at my AD and Trusted Seller websites that I requested. No issue as these folks take days off, are not aware of incoming inventory, etc. They also consistently do contact me on items I want, just not all of them. I do not give them a hard time and I do not believe it is intentional. I just ask for a larger discount and buy the watch if I want it.

Truth is there really isn’t a list. There may be a physical document with peoples names on it, in some sort of order. But the watches go to whoever they want them to in whatever order they choose. It is surprising though to see one hit the display case. My guess is it was used to draw people into the store during the holiday season.

Lack of purchase history is a factor when going on any waiting or "preferred client list" but if they could spare one to put in the window then it doesn't sound like they had someone else in line before you. Maybe they didn't look on the system.

May be when the watches came in, your SA was on the day off so other SA put in the show case.

Because they didn’t bother to take your details. Happened to me before stopped using the AD.

An SA told my buddy once that he only calls the top 4 or 5 names on the list and stops there.

If they get a really hot piece they call all the whales first out of courtesy and offer it to them. Then they go to the list. But they prefer not to spend all day on the phone.

Same thing happened to
Me.

I asked the sakes lady that I had bought a bluesy from before to please call me immediately when a Tudor GMT came in.

I visited a couple times and she always said “sorry sir, none have come in, I will call you when I see one.”

One day I stopped by again, sales lady greeted me at the door, I walked around and there was the watch sitting in the case.

Did I buy it?

Nope.

It has been so long that I even found out about the date change issue on the Tudor GMT and I didn’t want the watch anymore. Didn’t want to risk buying it and having that issue.

Needless to say, I changed sales person and have a great relationship with the new one :)

sounds like a typical WoS practice, dare to say the Bank branch.
It goes to show that the SAs don't really give a rat ass about their clients unless you spend big / are a dealer in the grey market who bulk buys

My last SA will pretend he is writing down my interests in his crappy old note book, but I know he won't be looking for my name when my watch is in stock as I am no big spender with him (2019 around 100k business including myself and referral)

So I now shop elsewhere

Yup.

I was once at Ben Bridge, and as I was leaving, this guy drove up in an Audi R8

Man, there were like 3 sales ladies welcoming him at the door and asking him how his family is and the business

A little different from the treatment that I receive when I show up in my 2006 Chrysler

Let's stop pretending. The vast majority of the 2000 ad's are as unscrupulous as the flippers they claim to detest. The lists are fictitious in so far as they are meaningless. My name was added to one once. Interestingly, as the pages were flicked over to the end not a single entry had been crossed out meaning not a single person had ever had their request met. Farcical!

I put my name to the list with one AD for the Tudor P01 in around August 2019. I was first one in the list. They got one, never got a call and that watch is still in their window today :D

(I bought P01 from different AD in November 2019)

I think y’all are missing the point. If you truly want to be called, you’re going to need to spend massive amounts of cash, or simply establish a personal connection (somehow) with an SA. If you don’t feel that’s possible (common at WoS, Torneau, etc) find a smaller/independent shop to work with.

It’s well worth the effort to find the right AD, if you have the patience to go that route these days...

+1 I can see this scenario happening. Multiple SAs, each with their own "allocations" and "relationships"...who knows what kind of communication happens between them.

This is a pretty frustrating dynamic; you would think it could/should be simpler and more straightforward. At least you were able to spot the watch and jump on it when the opportunity arose. Congrats, and enjoy!

There is no list , if you keep spending you can get anything when it comes in next if you want.
