116610 or 126610?
I am trying to decide on which Date Sub, should hunt for the 116610 or 126610? I like them both and can't decide.
I haven't gotten a chance to see them both in person tho. |

The newer version has a huge clasp underneath that many people don’t like. You can see other threads in this forum on this subject.

It comes down to aesthetics to me. I’d buy the one that looks best to my eye

Pretty sure a bunch of these threads are out there.
If I already owned 16610 or 116610, the changes with the 126610 are not worth the upgrade IMO. If I was buyin a sub for the first time, I am going with a 126610. I prefer new watches and love the 126610 design. Not enough to part with my 116610ln though. |

Do you own the newer version? I do and I’m able to make an informed opinion. The clasp is ever so slightly wider than the previous version and it makes absolutely no difference. It is extremely comfortable and compliments the slightly larger 41mm dial/bezel to perfection IMHO.

116 for me
For the reason stated above, tested and proven 3135 movement, there’s been plenty of posts about problems with the newer movement which I ignored until I had issues with it in my 2019 DJ41 I certainly won’t consider any 32 series movements until the issues have been properly resolved, if that ever even happens! |

I prefer a 16610 for the looks for sure. And built like a tank too.

Tried and true 116610LN with the bulletproof 3135 movement. Lug fatness is overblown on the forum but hey it's a watch forum so we have to focus on such things.

Had both - 12 is better. The skinny bracelet on the 11 bothered me. No problems with movement at all, actually is an improvement for me. The clasp is so over blown. You don’t even notice it and it is better as it allows the watch to sit more balanced on the wrist compare to the 11. Rolex did some research and put some thought into it before they just randomly changed their most popular model! Now I will say if you can get your hands on a 12 at msrp, no brainer. But if you have to go grey, I would think the 11 is less expensive.

I think the proportions on the 126610 are better than those of the 116610. Personally, I was not a fan of the Maxi case on the 116610 and much prefer the narrower lugs and wider bracelet on the updated reference. I am currently on the hunt for a 124060, so I am clearly biased, but the change in case shape and the addition of the newer movement with the longer power reserve makes this an easy decision for me.

I was on the fence for a while, but decided on the 126610 and I'm happy I did. I really like have the longer power reserve and slightly wider bracelet. It fits me great, but both are choices are a winner. As long as you don't bankrupt yourself chasing an elusive model, you will be happy either way.

Well I gotta say, I finally had a chance to see the new Sub at my dealer. I was going to make a thread on my experience, but there is so much out there on the topic I will just cover it here.
As the previous owner of two six digit subs and the current owner of a five digit sub, I can say, AT LEAST TO ME, there is practically no difference in the aesthetics of the 116610 and 126610. I was shocked because at least in pictures you can see the minute differences, but in real life it is even harder to see. It's kind of amazing to me when I think of all the angst about this on the forum, but I get us WIS obsess about the details. The new sub is simply another super case sub. It is definitely not a return to the classic look and lines of the five digits. If some feel that Rolex "fixed" the lug problem, er..okay I guess they did on a miniscule level. Either way too each their own, ALL subs are awesome, simply buy what YOU like the best!

If you're going grey (presumably you are since one of the two is discontinued), then I'd go with 116610. The enhancements made to the 126610 doesn't justify the cost difference to me. But if all things were equal (they aren't), I'd go with 126610.

I actually got the call last month for a 124060. Beautiful watch but it was not as comfortable to me as the 114060 that I had worn daily for a few years prior to selling it. I found the bracelet to be uncomfortable after trying several different link arrangements.
I actually ended up trading the 124060 straight up for a late 2020 new style card preowned 114060. Couldn’t be happier. Fits like a glove and feels lighter on the wrist. |

I have never warmed up to the more boxy look of the first edition of ceramic models.
If I was going to look for a Sub Date I would find the latest proportions more pleasing to my eye.

I currently own 16610, 116610, and 126610. Is that a problem?

The fat lugs on 11 allow you to polish more times - hence technically more lasting

Ive got both of them and i prefer the 116610 ....just looks less bloated to me and the wider bracelet is more uncomfortable as i wear the watch lower towards my hand....the clasp is humongous
