Premature speculation. How much of a premium do you pay for a dollars worth of green paint??

Nope... We've seen all the changes for '21. I really don't care for the image of the green GMT hand.

My goodness that looks horrid, IMO.

I think, for the first time, Rolex found themselves with a watch they couldn't improve upon, for its 50th anniversary.

Rolex doesn’t need to try this hard to sell watches. I’m glad they kept it largely the same for its 50th anniversary... reinforces belief they got the watch right.

The orange is there for hi visibility in all lighting situations which is part of the history and dna of the Explorerll. Green, not so much. I don't see that happening, same as the ceramic bezel, nope...

If Rolex was going to do green imo they should’ve just launched an anniversary Exp 2 in YG with Green sunburst dial. Especially without the GMT Master having a YG offering currently. Yes, I know good no good and not technically the Exp2 anniversary. But heck it would’ve been a lot more interesting than this TT Date Just 36 with Explorer on the dial. Movements aren’t even different nowadays

Yeap, and Rolex doubles down on the heritage, history and purpose of the color orange and it's use in the current 2021 press materials, same for the steel bezel. It's a deliberately choice to use and keep orange and keep the steel bezel, and thank goodness as it shows that Rolex isn't trying to dilute this last living adventure and "exploration" watch just to make it a more luxury based pretty face product. It's now making me consider buying one because I think the day will eventually come with a future version where they do go to a composite material.

Yes, I think next Exp 2 update the only thing left is moving back to 40mm and/or introducing a grey ceramic bezel that looks like SS in coloring.

I mean, I keep seeing 50th Anniversary being mentioned, but nowhere do I see Rolex mention or recognize this. And I say again, it's not new, Rolex snubbed the Submariner "Date" 50th anniversary in 2019. Not a peep, but the 50th anniversary of the original Submariner(a no date) was celebrated with a date model....so it's possible Rolex doesn't care about number "2" which is why they went fancy with the original, and made it two tone.

You can't force someone to celebrate their birthday or anniversary of any kind just because you want the benefit of free liquor and a great time nor Rolex because you just "want" a special cool watch.

Not a fan of the green here either, and never liked green on a Submariner as well, but that's exactly what Rolex did to the Submariner after 50 years.

Anyway, that being said, about the only improvement I could see to EXP2 is possibly a tungsten carbide bezel with same radial brushed finish. That way it would have the scratch resistance of ceramic while still maintaining the classic look of metal. Ceramic bezel would not have looked right at all IMO on EXP2, and glad Rolex steered clear of that.

going against the grain...i like the green. I think that the gmt hand could be offered in a variety of colors to spice things up. I also loved the colorful OP dials, but im not a brand purist, i just like watches

Rolex never said that they would introduce a special model for the Exp II's 50th birthday. The online community made that up themselves, then invented all sorts of ideas like a ceramic bezels, green hands, etc. And now everyone is disappointed and in denial because Rolex didn't do any of it. I don't get it. Rolex just updated the Explorer II, that's it, done.

Agree with you on the history/DNA, however, scientifically speaking, this green is actually highest visibility color to human eye.

I actually prefer the green to the orange, ideally in a darker shade, GMT Master II LN style. Having said that, I would still not get an Exp II, it's a great piece and I like what it stands for but I don't love it enough to put it on my wrist.

I don't mind the green but I'd take the orange over it every time

Experiencing symptoms of premature speculation?

Ask your authorized jeweler if ROLEX (unobtainium) is right for you.
