I waited over 3 years and just got mine last month…not a big spender whatsoever, just a genuine customer with a larger family history.
If you plan to walk in today and expect to get one in the next 12 months without serious purchase history, it is just not going to happen. Purchase history is king no doubt, but I’m seeing my AD get watches to genuine people now to avoid all the BS and flippers. |

While I tend to agree with this theory even those are hard A H to get. As a matter of fact my A D texted me this week and wanted to know if I wanted to be "considered" for a 116519.
Obviously I said umm hell yes and was then told "Well there is gonna be some heavy competition but I will let you know" As far as when I have no idea but I left the conversation thinking damn I have to be considered to spend 32k (29700 plus tax). Like really??? But thats the world we live in. I remember seeing the 116515 on leather sitting in cases forever!!! Nobody bought that watch.

I went grey. Wore it for a few months. Sold it for what I paid as it wasn't quite the watch I was expecting. Glad I owned one though for a while.

I was lucky enough to have a good enough relationship with my AD to pickup a White Dial 116500 last week. That being said, I am very aware that I am one of the lucky few and I don't that many others would be as fortunate as me.
I think if you truly want a SS Daytona your best bet is to go Grey. If you are ever allocated one from your AD at MSRP you can then sell the piece you picked up grey and you are likely to do ok on that transaction.

There is also the way of the monk…abstinence…with no prospects of a Daytona500 at MSRP, quit now.

There’s a reason it’s one of the most sought after watches in the world.
You’re not likely to regret it. Get it, and if the guilt becomes too much, sell, you are unlikely to go backwards in any meaningful way. YOLO Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it's either get it right now or just completely forget about it.

Since I have decades in this love of timepieces, I regularly buy from AD so when it's my turn... Cool!
If you just want a hot model... you know. So, just a hot model or do you also buy Omegas, Panerai, etc?

Below $30k worth it in the gray market. Right now I wouldn't make that move.

I do feel bad for those that don’t have a relationship with an AD. I think it’d be tough for anyone to forecast how hot Rolex was to become 10 years ago, or even 5. But here we are.
The way to the Daytona is to spend a decent amount over a few years. Can you get your wife anything? Is your son or daughter getting married where you can steer them into the AD and build that family relationship? |

no real reason to get it from grey, paying that premium.
move on to other goodies. plenty of nice stuff you can get instead for a sane price. i swear many people want a SS daytona just because it is hyped and "hard to get". time to get one if you really wanted was 2-3 years ago. no way in hell I would get one today at the market price. |

Why would I want a Daytona, I know that many people do but not for me, just not a Rolex I like, I tried the SS models and the TT ones but the watch just doesn’t do it for me.
