Rolex SS Sub Date Clasp?
Hey guys, I bought a Submariner last weekend and had a quick question about the clasp. I don't know if it is normal or not but the clasp on mine seems to come up ever so slightly and i can feel and hear it tick back in position when i push it down. Is this normal or should i have it looked at?
Thanks! |

I am by no means an authority, but the thin, hinged pieces of the clasp (not sure what the proper nomenclature is) not only serve as the expansion portion that allows you to put the watch on over your hand, but they're also effectively springs. They have a slight curvature to them and by increasing the curvature you will reduce the amount of friction within the clasp which can result in the clasp not locking into place. If you apply slight pressure against the convex portion of the thin, hinged metal pieces, you will straghten them slightly which will increase their length and result in a tighter fit within your clasp. OR, you could just take it to the dealer!

Welcome to the Forum..
YOur problem is a bit difficult to dignose on the net.. There are two different style of Sub bracelets... and they work a bit differently. Inside the clasp, there are adjustment holes, and there are also holes that the folded over divers extension "clicks" into, and that should be fairly firm. On the Sub Date, there is also the J-slot link that clicks over and into place.. And, as mentioned, there is the flip-lock that just friction fits over it all, but it has dimples that click into another set of holes in the clasp.. So, back end, front end ???..pictures would help..

Thanks guys, I popped in wempe on the way home today to have them take a look and they said it was perfectly normal. I was not sure how firmly the flip lock should stay attached. It is definitely snapped shut but through out the day it would come up ever so slightly and there would be a little tick when i pushed it back down. Just wanted to double check! I'm loving the watch so far. One of my best purchases ever.
