Finally got a GMT
After god knows how long of "iffing and butting" I decided to get myself a GMT IIc. Absolutely love it now but does it not come with the Laser Etched Crown type thing?

You have to rub the crystal with your thumbnail for exactly 7 seconds to awaken it (under room temperature - if it is too hot/cold, it scares the etching away), then look at it at a 37 degree angle while shining a fluorescent light from the opposite direction. Then you MAY see it, depending on the date of the month.

I did find it not quite the way you suggested, I went for the rub with gypsy tears and say XELOR 3 times whilst looking in a mirror. It is absolutely tiny though. I was under the impression it was noticeable. Is it bigger on other watches or the same for all? I was quite confused when I first got it because I knew the Etching started before the new GMT came out but couldnt for the life of me see it.

They are tiny....... but they are the same size on all Rolex crystals.. Many replica makers either press, glue, or scratch a crown, but it is much more visible... That's the whole point with the tiny, tiny intricate dots that make it up.......

BTW - your avatar scares me a bit And your watch is my DREAM watch. Go figure - I have the YG version and would love nothing more than to own a SS version.... The GMT Hand is always greener on the other watch!

I noticed in your sig you have a PAM 114. I'm looking to buy one myself. Do you happen to have any wrist shots?

Congrats with a great model , if you bought your watch from your AD the etching is there . It took me hours and some luck to finally see the etching on my SDDS where on my 116520 I found it within seconds .

Congrats on a great watch.
I had the same trouble trying to find the laser etched crown on mine. I can only see it with a jewellers loupe. Its very hard to see with the naked eye. |
