Super rare Rolex 1501 from 1975 or ???
Hi guys,
Please see below the pictures of my new 1501 from 1975. Would you know if this is a redial or even a fake?? It seems that this dial existed but I cannot find it in the catalogue from 1975. Than you Roro Forums community |

Not an expert on this model but they made a few dial types. Most blue I have seen the minute markers go to edge of dial like first below. But some like second below stand away from rehaut - it's a sigma non hyphen of version eg not - date - . I have never seen one with such long second markers and shorter half second markers though - so I'm inclined toward refinish.

Thank you Paul! Hmm after a few search it seems that this dial existed even if not referenced in 1975 catalogue.
The dial is called "half radial", dials like this seem rarer, seems that Rolex only produced them for 2 years. But still not sure where to find more information. Seems to be a super rare dial... ! I know the normal radial / rail dial for the OP 1500/1501 but this one... hard to find! |

Thank you Paul! :)
I found the same watch by Googling. Seems it's a super rare dial, called "half radial" (vs. normal radial) and that Rolex produced it during only 2 years. But still I would appreciate if someone has more information :). The dial was not listed in the 1975 catalogue. |

Yes both Rolex and Tudor used these dials back in the 1970s

Very nice-looking Date. Looks good! Also, I'd doubt the bad guys would be faking the Date model, but I guess you never know.

Yes Pauldavidthorpe, I saw this one too, I would expect that the 1500 and 1501 shared the same dials :).

I like the dial, it's interesting and a bit different than the typical ones we see every day. I doubt that every dial variation was shown in the catalog. Also, for what it's worth, I suspect your watch is earlier than 1975, more like 1973 IMO, but it's not possible to know exactly.

I am sure that the chap who auctioned off the Paul Newman Daytona (Aurel Bacs) has one of these (same dial) in his collection - I watched an interview with him during which he shared some of his personal watch collection. If my memory is correct then you are in excellent company .

All good Roro fam! :), went to Bucherer who sent it to Rolex, got it back yesterday (after 5 months). All in order just got a cleaning quote offer from Bucherer (offered by Rolex in the back I guess). No any paper from Rolex but I guess they checked the dial ref, the case and caliber serials.

IG:Morillo had one of these for sale not too long ago, near certain it's a legit watch and authentic dial.

Sigma dial with painted indices as well. You don't see too many with the painted indices, a personal favorite feature found on early 70s Rolex midsized watches.
