The original Omega CK2998 was released in 1959 and has since become one of the most iconic and desirable versions of this prestigious collection with its Alpha hands, symmetrical case and black tachymetre bezel. Today, this classic design has been used as inspiration for a new Limited Edition model of just 2,998 pieces.
Reference 311.33.40.30.02.001 was launched in 2016 and comes set in a 39.7mm stainless steel round case with a striking modern blue ceramic fixed tachymetre bezel. The dial continues the use of the blue theme on the outer chapter ring and on the chronograph sub-dials and is framed by an opaline silver color for contrast. The Alpha-style hands and ‘lollipop’ sweeping split-second hand are all rhodium plated to prevent tarnishing and have a Superluminova luminous filling for increased legibility.
The watch is fitted with a raised sapphire crystal glass, which mimics the original plexi-glass crystal of the original model. The watch is powered by the Omega caliber 1861 manual chronograph mechanism and protected by an embossed caseback featuring the iconic Omega Hippocampus logo. It originally was fitted on a matching blue alligator leather strap with a steel Omega pin buckle. However, it has since been upgraded to an 19” Speedmaster bracelet that brings it closer to the initial release AND greatly increases the everyday wearability. Both the bracelet and the original strap are included, as well as a Hodinkee cordovan NATO.
Purchased in August 2016 and in very good condition (minor marks to clasp), this Speedmaster comes with its original inner and outer boxes, instruction booklet, swing tag, grey card holder, pictogram and limited-edition certificate.
