What do you guys think…Platinum Daytona vs Patek 5711-R

So I have the possibility to get both at retail, but only one I will buy…

5711R is discontinued.

So who in their right mind is selling you one at RRP?

I personally was never a fan of the 5711. So, I would choose the Platona in a heartbeat as I know I would keep and enjoy that one much more over the Patek.

However, considering that the whole 5711 line is now discontinued, the offer of a brand new 5711R is impossible to resist. Instant big equity! I would pick that one up, even if you don't like it as much as the Platona. If you are able to do it comfortably, I would buy it and stick it away for a few years. Or, use it if you really like the watch. Either way, I think the 5711 is the one to get. You will probably never have another opportunity to buy one new at MSRP.

Platona is so overhyped. Crypto Bros who knew nothing about watches got swindled by inflated secondary prices. Not a fan of a brown bezel and still would love to know why they chose that color for the bezel and subdials. I’d pick the 5711R any day of the week and twice on Sunday and it is cheaper

Nautilus so much more satisfying than a Daytona.

But I do prefer blue.

Platinum Daytona vs Patek 5711/1R

Both are top notch but.....

I would go for PP 5711/1R without a doubt, MSRP is cheaper than Plat. Daytona and it's discontinued, price in secondary market is more than 3 x MSRP.

You can get Plat. Daytona later.

It’s always the 5711r, but I did wonder wether the pt Daytona would go this year with it being 60 year anniversary

However, unless it moves to 41mm I’m not sure how different a new ice blue Pt Daytona will actually look. Rolex will just update it. That blue always goes on Pt

Cmon man. It’s embarrassing if you even have to think about it or ask the forum. Discontinued R at retail every day of the week.

In terms of watch to wear - I like the daytona platinum better
In terms of investment - not even close --- Patek wins big

Rolex daytona platinum is Mega heavy and you really need to try it on as it is significantly heavier

Patek is much more easy on the wrist

Honestly, I would try to buy both and sell the one you like least in a year or two

From an aesthetics point of view I much prefer the Daytona. I never understood the popularity of the 5711.

While most love the PP, I have never liked that design, just does nothing for me. I do have the Platinum Daytona and love it. The dial is mesmerizing in the sun. Good luck on your choice!

Definitely get the Daytona.

But I feel bad swaying your decision and taking away a sale from the Patek AD, so please send me their info and phone number and I'll buy the 5711 so they still make the sale.

What does the rest of your collection consist of? The 5711/1R on the rg bracelet is INSANELY flashy, much more so than the platona. The platona is much more versatile and I think flys under the radar more than that Patek. The 5711/1r isn't a one and only watch IMO. If you have a more diversified collection than I could see how the 5711/1r would fit better into the rotation. I would take the 5712/1r if an option otherwise I will be in the minority and select the diamond platona if you do not have a diversified collection.
