Rolex Snobbery
So I have other watches in my small humble collection, but I can't wear them proudly like a Rolex. In other words, in my head I always think I should have worn a Rolex instead.
I've always wanted a Rolex since I was 12 when my cousin gave me a fake one from the Flea Market. Back in the day, they were known to be $1000 watches but I told myself, one day... Got my very first one at the age of 20 and wore the same watch for over twenty years as my only watch. My college friends were so surprised to see I still have the same watch after all those years. Now I have tried other brands, I just don't feel the same when wearing them. An example is when I wear my Speedy 3861 or Cartier Santos, it just feels so bland and normal. It's not that I want to flaunt I have a Rolex, but I just feel different probably a little more confident.. just can't explain. Anyone feel the same and does this make me a "Rolex Snob"? |

I have a handful of Rolexes, including a DD40 and I just picked up an AP.
Recently, I put in an order for a Christopher Ward Bel Canto (sub $4k watch) and I'm currently wearing a Tudor Black Bay. For me, it truly is about what you like, regardless of name.

It’s just a watch. Wearing one doesn’t bestow anything upon thee

I started with Rolex, currently have four Rolex, I have a humble Tag, a Tudor Ranger, a Nomos Ahoi, an Omega Speedy, an Omega X33 Skymaster, a Tissot Solar, Breitling Superocean Heritage I, all have a place and time. Wearing them when the fancy strikes. Rolex without doubt has 'that' feel, like no other watch.

For modern watches, its Panerai and Rolex for me so far. I do love my small vintage Movado and Omegas too.

No one really cares but i can completely relate to the OPs thoughts. Honestly, i feel the exact same way. Ive got a nice collection built over years of this passionate hobby. The Rolex’s are really the only watches i want to wear…….

I thought that way for a long time. Not anymore. I sold a lot of my collection, Rolex,VC, keeping 3, including 2 five digit sports and used most of the funds for another interest.
I actually prefer my 06 Seamaster more than any others. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

I don't wear my Rolex watches "proudly", as you say, and they don't make feel more "confident" than any other brand. Reactions of the few who notice are as likely to be negative as positive anyway. I just wear them when the mood takes me, which isn't too often these days. I mostly wear Seiko divers, Grand Seiko and Tudor.

My two favorite watches are a Tag and a Rolex. I've had the Tag the longest (around 20 years), and I've had the Rolex for two years. Both were chosen because I liked the looks of them. They were chosen first because of their design/style, and second because they are known as good quality watches.

Yes, I can relate to what you are saying. And like you, no desire to flaunt anything. I've somehow lived most of my life in areas where most of the people are much wealthier than me, so I am not flaunting anything to begin with.
I also want to wear a Rolex without a single person around me knowing I'm wearing one, unfortunately it's getting harder these days. And yes, if I have something else on my wrist I often find myself wishing I was wearing a Rolex instead, or wondering why I left home without it (although again these days it's because I don't want people knowing I'm wearing one). Not necessarily sure if this is snobby, I think it's just more of familiarity and having what I really want. I grew up wanting a Rolex and only a Rolex. Ironically after I bought one or two, I kept buying watches from other brands. It's kind of silly if I think about it that way. I can understand maybe being bored with 1 watch, but shouldn't 2-3 Rolexes be enough for anyone? I think it's kind of like a really nice pair of comfortable shoes. |

You like what you like, there's no snobbery involved. Liking something as much as you do makes it excellent value for money.

It’s in your head, but that doesn’t mean it’s not real. I went though a phase where I put value in goods. Honestly, it wasn’t until I achieved real financial success that I realized no one gives a rip. The more money you make, the less you care about these things. At least I think that’s for most folks. There’s always some guy who thinks money makes him better than others.
I’ve been wearing a black dial Pelagos all week and I’ve got watches that cost well over 10 times the Pelagos. I just felt like rocking it this week. IT’s a cool watch and I love the matte dial and bezel. The market value is irrelevant to me. |

I buy what I like which is mostly Rolex but I have several other respectable watches (IWC, AP, Hublot etc etc). I wear them all some more than others.

Have you watched a video that a guy wearing a Rolex told a guy wearing patek to work harder so that one day he could afford a Rolex.
That’s snobbery |

Tudor gets the majority of my time, I enjoy Rolex equally but still enjoy the relative albeit it fading anonymity of the Tudor brand.

Rolex Snobbery
My Omegas get equal wrist time. When I wear them, I feel like they’re just as special. But honestly, if I can only have 2 watches, I’d definitely choose my Submariner and DJ41.

I like Rolex a lot, but like other brands too. Rolex is cooler once you know more about other brands. The new watch guy who only wants to talk Rolex market pricing and doesn’t know what a balance wheel does is completely insufferable.

It is a normal feeling. That is why I got to the point, just got one Rolex, and move on.

When I was in my 30s I had a DD, a Sea Dweller and a Seamaster. Whenever I wore the Seamaster I asked my self why I wasn’t wearing one of my Rolexes…. “If I have a Rolex, why would I wear anything else” I thought, so I sold the Omega and began my relentless pursuit of a Rolex collection. Over the course of the pandemic I bought and sold numerous Rolexes (typically at a loss). I flushed my system and when it was over I still had my two Rolexes. I added a pair of BB 58s which I love and now a Skyfall AT, and the blue wave Seamaster. Omegas have always been special to me and now that I am a bit older (and hopefully wiser) I really embrace all of them. I must admit however the Omegas get most of my wrist time.

I wear my Blue TAG Aquaracer more than my 124060 Sub. The TAG is big (43 mm), has a shitty ETA 2824-2 movement, and doesn't have the "Rolex" snobbery charm, but I love it to death.
I think people are too worried about what others think. Just wear what you like and even if it's too big, too small, too thick, who cares? When you look down at your wrist and smile, that's what counts. |
