I am still seeing SD'ers at lots of AD's. A far as the V serial, it means nothing, never has a serial number added to the collectibility of a watch.

Karmatp,
Wouldn't a serial # which indicated the last or first series of watches which had a certain desirable feature - make it an indication of a sought after watch? Just asking. I am still new to the ins / outs of Rolex ownership...and now wannabe collector... |

Serial number letters can be useful if you intend to resell in a few years, a buyer may want a more recent one. Also, there are still some D serial (maybe earlier) at ADs being represented as new. 3 years or so sitting in a case is not new in my humble opinion even if it can legally be sold as new.

I ask selfishly as my (new to me) serial y is presumably the last of the subs to have lug holes...again, just a nice to know. I hear you on the sitting question...I got some advice in another thread I started. As a result, I ended up buying an older watch Vs. a NIB which had been sitting for 5 years. <EDIT> Yup...a big NAY from me as well on the ROLEXROLEXROLEX on the rehaut!!! |

I agree on the 50th sub. That would be the 1 that might get a slight premium. How big is anybodys guess.I personaly dont like the newer ones with the rolexrolexrolex inside.

It is the exact same watch that has been produced for years, why would the difference between a M serial and a V serial demand any higher price in the future, it would make no sense. So much of this kind of stuff is internet hype, it's just not worth paying more for a letter that is engraved between the lugs, especially when it is the exact same watch.

considering it is the last serial prefix of a discontinued watch, I thought it might be something someone was interested in. just doing everyone a favor by letting them know....and READ..i repeat..READ my initial post. Did I mention ANYTHING about collectability???? You assumed I was referring to collectability...and if the serial number is of no importance..why are people willing to pay a slight premium for birthyear watches?hmMMMMM? For a TRUE collector of Sea-Dwellers..this would be collectable in their eyes, no? but then again...Im making an ASSUMPTION. Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...and its only as collectable as someone says it is....

Yes, I thought you were referring to the most recent production model of the discontinued model, which might mean something. I'm unsure how the Sub topic came up here. I gotcha Justin.
