Cartier for me. It’s simple. The PP dial is too busy for me.

I don't think PP are anything special. If I was gifted on I’d take it but wouldn't spend my own money on one.
I’d take the cartier over the PP any day of the week.

One is a timeless classic that anyone would be proud to own,
the other is an aquanaut. |

Tank. To help you agree with me, pretend you were a brand agnostic and never heard of Gerald Genta.

I would go with the Patek. Far more versatile.

Not a fan of the early Aquanauts including 5065 but I care even less for that Cartier.

Personally I’d rather have the aquanaut. But they’re such fundamentally different pieces. For me I can wear an aquanaut almost anywhere, but would be less likely to wear a Cartier except when getting dressed more formal.

The pieces are so vastly different it’s hard to say - dress v sport, mid-level horology vs. higher horology. (There’s no fine finishing on the Cartier, it’s a closed-caseback for a reason.)
If it were me, I’d add the Patek Aquanaut and contemplate trading in the Omega Speedmaster, too. 2 Pateks, one dress/one sport, and the Daytona would be a solid 3 piece collection. Final thought: I refuse to buy any Richemont brand, given the hellish customer service experiences I have had, including with Cartier. |

Aquanaut for me although the Cartier is very nice it’s just a little too pretty for my tastes.

myk7000, I'm curious, do you feel that this post, with over 40 responses, has helped you make a decision?
Are you leaning towards the Cartier? Are you leaning towards the Patek? Have you been put off of both of these watches? |

Here's how I'm thinking about the 2 watches. I like to wear my watches in daily rotation so it does feel like the aquanaut is the more practical watch, as it can be worn more often from a durability standpoint, but also from a fashion/outfit standpoint as well. Also, someone pointed out that I already have a dress piece in the 5396g, so the Cartier does feel a bit redundant given that formal occassions are a rare occurrence. The problem is, I'm a bit wary of the hype element of the aquanaut. I chose the 5065A for this reason, as it is different than the current gen, which I feel is uber-hyped. Thus, the Cartier feels more timeless, and less subject to the whims of popular opinion. I also love how classy the Tank Louis is - it's an aspiration watch to me - one that symbolizes the man I'd like to become. I think at the end of the day, I'm leaning a bit closer to the aquanaut, as I'm a diehard fan of Patek and the everyday nature of this model appeases me. That being said, I may try to exercise some restraint and be as content as possible with my current 3 watches. They all have high sentimental value, and are also some of my favorite designed watches. Damn this disease of collecting... |

Both are great timepieces.
Cartier is very good price in secondary market, Aquanaut is way overprice in secondary market.

Maybe I misunderstood something, but these watches not only belong to different occasions, but also represent a whole different price range. Looking at it from this point of view, I think that if there is a chance and funds to get a PP, then buying Cartier should not be a problem.

Cartier tank, effortlessly chic and classic. Love my YG/green Tank. The strap on the Patek reminds me too much of a tire tread.

Have you considered a Tank Americaine? For me, that stacks up better to the aquanaut and I'd be hard pressed to pick just one.

Imho, After having many diverse and high quality watches come through the collection, the basic aquanaut is simply one of the very best watches available. Extraordinarily wearable and capable. Legible Water resistant And Thin A combination that has rarely been achieved in watchmaking in my experience. Quote:
Agree with you that Cartier is a beauty and truth be told the aquanaut strap and especially the buckle (crap) are not my favorites. I prefer the watch on a leather strap.

I agree with this. If these two choices, the Cartier is a classy dressy watch. Wouldn’t be my top choice, but between these two based on what you have a better choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I personally don't like the Aquanaut and that is my favorite current production Cartier, so for me it's an easy choice. I also think the Cartier fits better with your current collection. I share that Cartier with my wife. It's a little small on my 6.7" wrist and a little large on hers, but we both really like it.
