Why did PP DISCONTINUE THE 5146P?

I think the 5146P is a beautiful PP, I know there are a few still floating around but I’m interested to understand why PP disconnected this Platinum model?

I often wonder why watch brands discontinue any model. Not sure we will ever know, but I am interested in the responses.

I can guess that Customers didn’t see a justified benefit for getting the platinum version over the gold models.
Brands often have ulterior reasons on such decisions so it’s really hard to know what was the exact reason

The P version was a slow seller and the Platinum premium on an AC probably was not justified for the 5146 for most people. I am surprised the 5146 series is still going strong after 10+ years of production. They are nice watches, but sometimes change is also a good thing.

I think the platinum version of the 5146 had the nicest dial. The mixing of numbers and markers on the gold versions didn't appeal to me at all.

you are the few who thinks its beautiful. I see 0 beauty in this. The dial is blah. You can pick up any 5146 SUPER cheap. You want it on a bracelet?- Cheap. Strap- Cheap. Platinum-Cheap.

You get the picture lol. Its a bargain Patek. When you can get into a AC PM Patek for $25k....something is wrong....its ugly. I would stay away from it

To each his own. It is a complicated platinum Patek. It is derived from the basic design of the Calatrava. I happen to think it’s one of the most beautiful with it’s beautifully balanced dial. This is the design of the original annual calendar… For anybody. It was originally introduced in the 5035 annual calendar, which was a complication Patek that was designed to be much more obtainable financially than their grand complications.

PP has a tendency to discontinue watches seemingly randomly. It doesn’t mean anything. Unlike Rolex, they frequently don’t milk design for decades.

PP can certainly make ugly watches. Do any of you remember the Neptune? Or the sculpture? Many of us who have been collecting for years think the Nautilis is ugly. It was originally designed per Genta himself as a woman’s watch. For literally decades you could purchase one below retail. And the aquanaut was considered an abomination by Patek purists.

I agree...the p version with only batons is much nicer than the gold versions imo
