Rubber strap and luxury do not belong together. IMHO

I love the YM RG on OF. I agree that the gold content has nothing to do with the price of the watch. Rolex sets the prices it is what it is. Bottom line is I want the watch and I’ll pay the price for it. As long as I enjoy it, and it doesn’t break the bank, I don’t see an issue.

Prices are established when a willing seller and a willing buyer agree. Cost and price are rarely directly related.

Rolex and Patek are marketing geniuses. They have taken a product that really has been relegated to uselessness by electronics like Apple watches and phones which do FAR more than tell time and made them even MORE precious and desired by making them more exclusive. Who uses the complications? Nobody. Shit....you don't even wear a Daytona to tell time....it's hard to even see the time on it! This is all about wanting what you can't have and making it even more difficult to obtain increases the desire to have it. What makes a club exclusive? They exclude people. As Groucho used to say...."I wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member." Rolex owners feel like they've snuck into something elusive and exclusive when they get their hands on a relatively difficult to obtain piece but really isn't that what investing in art also about? Is there anything really special or beautiful about many pieces that sell for millions other than that very few can own them?

If the PM Oysterflex Daytona is such a bad deal why are people on waiting lists to get hold of one? If you consider your argument logically you are correct ie gold content against cost. However logic doesn't apply to buying a Rolex. Its a watch, it tells time so does a $20 Casio and probably more accurately but people aspire to buy expensive watches. I've never seen anyone place a watch on a set of scales in a jewellers to determine the cost per ounce of gold. I've seen many try on a number of watches to see which they like best.

They all overcharge, big profit in PM. SS only for me, I'll spend that extra amount on a higer horology piece.

This is grossly overstated.

Apple watches also have their own issues bro. They need constant power, they have zero aesthetic value, they are consumer electronics and so won't stand the test of time, etc, etc.

And let's keep in mind the fact that a lot of the functionality of something like an Apple watch is duplicative at best, useless at worst. It would never be a replacement for either my laptop or my smartphone, and so 99% of the functionality would be redundant. Additionally, a lot of the other functionality is fairly silly and stuff people *think* they need, not actually need.

Well said OP. I wouldn’t go as far as comparing these 2 watches though.
