Still have the first one

How many guys out there still have their first Rolex they purchased, from at least 10yrs ago or longer. Let’s see them. My first Rolex, which I purchased around 2004, was a Sub-Date, no box, no papers, from my grey guy. I traded it back to him for a SD BNIB. I still have the SD. My first real watch I purchased, not including the Movado, was A Cartier Pasha, which I still have. I purchased this watch used from my grey guy, with box and papers. It was purchased in May 1996, originally. This watch has quartz movement.

That's an interesting watch...cool that you've held onto it.

It’s been 20 yrs or so that I have had it. The battery needs to be replaced, so right now it’s not working. The oval chrono’s and date made it interesting for me.

My first Rolex was my black GMT, but it’s only been with me for 8 years. The only place I will be giving that away to in the foreseeable future is to Rolex for a service ;)

Hello all. First time poster here. Still wearing my GMT II Master almost everyday. Purchased in 1997, after secured my stable income. Red became light pink already. Collected a couple more afterward, but those are not the same as the first one.

My first Rolex was a 16200 Y serial purchased new. I sold it after years of not wearing it to get a 114270. Sadly, the 114270 is gone and I wish I had the 16200 back.

This seems to happen more often than not, right? Regret selling the first. But as you say, you didn't wear it... so why would you want it back? Genuinely interested as I am contemplating selling my first Rolex to fund another Rolex - but don't want to regret that decision.

The watches get better with time right? Innovations (better movement), upgrades (better bracelets), and even just a change (wanted a dateless watch). But as time creeped on, I missed the compact case of the 16200 and the subtle rattles of the hollow end links that I once hated. When my collection started to build up, I was missing the "dress" watch and started to really miss the Datejust, plus it was a bit of a regret thing, and wanted it back.

If there was any advice to be given, I'd say keep the first one until you really really are sure its time to let go. If its to fund another watch, don't use your first as leverage for the second. Use it for the third when you're sure it's time to go.

Thanks for this advice. The acquisition of the first also has a sentimental value attached to it. And I am just being 'cheap' (as in I have the cash for the next Rolex) in wanting to move it on at this point!

I toyed with selling my first BNIB purchase from an AD, my 14060m, for a long time. Finally sold last fall and it went to a good guy who enjoys wearing it.

I liked the watch, but it wasn’t getting wrist time vs my Sea-Dwellers, all of which I like better than it. No regrets.

I purchased my first Rolex in 1992, a 14060, for $2800 from an AD. I traded it about 15 years ago and really regret it. I'd pay a premium if I could find it. I always recommend people keep their first Rolex.

My first and up until now my only Rolex is my 14060, bought new on Feb. 26 1996. Been wearing it nearly everyday since!

I had my first Rolex, a 14060, for 18 years. I sold it a few years ago because I never wore it anymore, I much prefer the six-digit models now. No regrets. They’re just pieces of metal, after all.
